Responsibilities:
The Director of Products and Services for The IEEE-Computer Society will exercise overall operational responsibility for the society's publications and conference services programs, including journals, magazines, proceedings, books, and conferences. The Director will oversee the Los Alamitos facility and its 60-person products & services staff. Working with volunteer boards, helps establish strategic direction and coordination among product teams, providing guidance to the publishing and conferences staff and volunteers and recommending modifications to policy or programs when necessary. Prepares and recommends operational budgets, manages operations to approved budgets, and reviews annual budget input for the director of finance and administration. Coordinates the Computer Society's purchasing and contracting of relevant publishing and conference services, ensuring the most economic use of resources. As a member of the Computer Society executive staff team, the Director of Products and Services actively assists, supports, and informs the Computer Society's Executive Director to facilitate the effective management and operation of the society and participates in senior management and planning activities of the society. He/she serves as a contact with IEEE and outside organizations in matters of conferences and publishing.
Requirements:
BA/BS degree required.
A master's degree, preferably in business administration, digital publishing, or finance, is strongly preferred.
A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in either technical publishing or events/conference/meetings management, seven of which have been in a management capacity, is required.
Experience with not-for-profit environment is preferred.
Must possess a solid understanding of the technology and economics of contemporary publishing, especially in a not-for-profit academic environment.
Must have a solid understanding of the computer industry, its terminology, and the role of the Computer Society's service to computer professionals.
Must have an excellent personal facility with PC tools, including word processing, spreadsheet, presentation graphics software, and financial and statistical database skills needed for business and operations management.
