Software Design Engineer
Position: Full Time
Experience: 3 - 7 Years Experience
Desired Education Level: Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering or Similar
Location: EdgeTech, Boca Raton Florida
The successful candidate for this Software Design position works in a product development environment where there is collaborative engineering of new and innovative sonar systems (www.edgetech.com). This Software Design Engineering position requires software design and writing experience in some or all of the following areas:
- User interfaces
- Digital signal processing
- Embedded systems software
- High level and detailed software design
- Code documentation
- Hardware and software systems integration.
For this Software Design Engineer position, a key requirement is experience and a demonstrated ability to read, write and debug MS Windows code written in C /C++/C# using Visual Studio 2008 and the .net framework. Experience in multi-threading (threads, critical sections, asynchronous processing) is a plus along with familiarity with sockets and signal processing. A background in scientific programming and acoustics is desirable.
The Software Design Engineer is involved in all stages of product development from initial design, technical specification and product development, through "in the field" testing and customer support. The Software Design Engineer may modify existing company software by analyzing and identifying areas for improvement. The Software Design Engineer will write operational documentation with technical authors and maintain systems by monitoring and correcting software defects. This Software Design Engineer position requires working closely with other engineers, and staff, such as project managers and sales & marketing professionals. The Software Design Engineer consults with customers and colleagues concerning the maintenance and performance of the company's software systems. This position participates in peer reviews, design reviews, testing process (through test review and analysis), test witnessing and certification of software. Occasional field support of deployed systems is likely and a willingness to travel for short periods is required.
The successful candidate for this Software Design Engineering position is a problem-solver and thinks laterally as part of a team, or individually, to meet the needs of the project. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are also required for this Software Engineer position. A practical nature and an ability to deal positively with our customers' engineering and technical groups is also required.
