We are currently expanding our professional team of Technology Project Managers in Monterey, CA.
The Technology Project Manager is accountable for the delivery of the Technology component of a project that meets identified criteria for scope, cost, time, quality and participant satisfaction. The Project Manager has responsibility for this component from the conceptualization of the project until the final deliverable has been received and accepted by the customer. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
For all projects, develop and maintain a project plan; in the plan, identify the criteria for success of the project, technology inputs and outputs, functional areas responsible for deliverables, interfaces between functional areas, tasks required to complete the project (WBS), the schedule, and the critical path. Before committing to a technology deliverable, obtain a commitment from the appropriate functional managers for the resources required to complete that deliverable. Develop and manage project scope through the use of system and software requirements. Obtain formal commitments to the requirements from all project stakeholders; manage requirement changes so that all project stakeholders agree to the change. Represent technology interests on projects to both external and internal customers. Respond to inquiries; escalate issues that cannot be resolved to the Technology Program Manager or appropriate CTB Program Manager; follow basic customer satisfaction principles. Advertise the project requirements to technology functional area. Ensure all technology participants are aligned on the same goals and understand the criteria for success, the project and system requirements. Advertise the technology outputs to internal customers; make sure the recipients of technology deliverables understand what they will receive. Maintain the current status of all assigned projects using agreed methods. Monitor and review the design process, implementation/testing progress, and cost. Attempt to correct any variances to the project plan, especially in requirements/scope, delivery dates and quality. Manage the identified critical path to ensure that committed milestones are achieved. Reassess project timelines and deliverables if critical path is at risk or compromised. Escalate any variances that cannot be resolved. Risk management: maintain a risk list for projects with a budget of over $50,000. Identify the top five risks and assess their impact. Attempt to mitigate the risks. Have a contingency plan for the top three risk items. Coordinate the technology response to RFPs: clarify the requirements/content of the RFP, collect and consolidate technology costs and time estimates, make reasonable attempts to ensure resources are not over-committed. Conduct post-project reviews to identify areas where technology procedures or products can be improved.
Qualifications
Demonstrated ability to manage large, complex technology projects involving multiple stakeholders. Ability to align technical needs with business goals required. Minimum three years' experience in software development and a bachelor degree in technology-related field (or equivalent experience) required. Strong verbal and written communication skills required. Demonstrated ability to overcome obstacles and negotiate resolutions to complex problems. Knowledge of software engineering process with extensive experience in at least one of these areas required: IBM mainframe MVS, distributed Microsoft NT/SQL Server with C++ and Visual Basic applications, Computer Associates DataCom database, mid-range RISC with Unix and Oracle database, Web based architecture. Practical training in project management techniques preferred.
