We are seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to work with the sales and product managers to define technical solutions for RFP responses and new product development; leverage a set of existing solutions and architecture, as well as software architects, to guide and define strategic choices and direction of our existing architecture; provide expert guidance to executives, sales and product development staff about technology and industry trends and the possibilities of technology in Grow’s domain; work with peers across our segment to define common direction, prescriptive architecture patterns, and to identify and lead transformative initiatives for efficiency and flexibility; and, present solutions and technology to client decision makers. This position is focused on both operations and innovation, both within Grow and within McGraw-Hill Education
Essential Accountability
Leads the rationalization of existing systems and defines new architecture as necessary for existing web and print systems
Provides pre-sales architecture and technology leadership in RFP responses and new product development
Provides solutions leadership for internal and cross-segment architecture activities
Plans, sets, and documents strategic architecture vision and tactical directions for existing and forthcoming Grow web- and print-based products
Works with a small team of architects to maximize the return on technology spend
Collaborates with Product Managers to brainstorm new innovations and directions
Vendor and alliance discovery, definition and management
Degree in Computer Science, MS a plus
Minimum of five+ years experience in an solution architectural leadership role
Proven technical leadership experience in the K-12 educational assessment, reporting, and/or content recommendation industry
Proven understanding of data warehouse/datamart design issues
Proven experience defining, communicating solutions architecture directions, especially to executives and business stakeholders
Ability to provide leadership to existing senior architecture staff
Experience with SOA data architectures, design and development with WSDL/SOAP, REST, JBI, or SCA
Experience with XML and XSLT for rendering HTML and other output
Experience architecting dynamic reporting and querying systems
Experience utilizing current software engineering tools like Eclipse, CheckStyle, Perforce, DevTrack and Ant
Experience with current software development and management practices like RUP and UML, as well as Agile and Lean processes
Experience leading offshore development teams and reviewing artifacts
Must be able to function in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision
Excellent communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills
Experience in the educational or assessment and reporting industries strongly preferred.
