McGraw-Hill Professional has an exciting opportunity for aSr Financial Analyst , based in our New York City office.

TheSr. Financial Analyst functions as a business partner providing financial and business decision support to several core business teams, in addition to leading the sales forecasting effort for the division.

Key Accountabilities:

Financial Business Support - Working as a business partner, provides financial business support for assigned segments of the portfolio. Reviews and approves product proposals, and provides guidance to improve revenue growth, profitability, and ability to reach profit margin hurdles and budgets. Monitors, reviews and controls assets, liabilities, revenues and expenses for assigned businesses. Prepares post project and other reviews of new products, plant investments, promotional programs, author advances, and other investments.

Revenue Forecasts & Models - Responsible for developing overall revenue forecasts. Leads weekly 24 (or as needed) forecast review meetings with Vice Presidents and other senior leaders from Finance, Sales and Publishing. Develops models to improve accuracy of forecasts. Tracks and analyzes front list lay-down, prior frontlist, backlist and return trends and provides analysis versus budget and historical results.

Financial Planning - Assists in the development of medium range plans (MRP), periodic budget updates (DOE), and strategic plans. Provides the leadership for the development of the revenue budget.

Monthly and Quarterly Close Process - Participates in closing meetings, reviewing financial results of assigned businesses to ensure accuracy of financial statements. Reviews revenue, mix, gross margin and expenses. Provides commentary for monthly, quarterly and YTD results versus budget and historical results for overall revenue, and for the financial results of assigned businesses.

Special Projects - Completes as assigned to meet business needs. This can include acquisition analysis, pricing analysis, portfolio and market analysis, and requests from Segment and Corporate.

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field and MBA or CPA.

4 to 10 years of experience

Good working knowledge of accounting principles with some actual work experience in accounting

Strong analytical skills and judgment

High energy level

Ability to make recommendations and influence business decisions

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Team oriented, able to work well across the organization as a business partner

Good system skills. Ability to design business processes and system requirements

Strong understanding of accounting

Publishing industry experience preferred

Experience with royalties and advances a plus
