Posting Job Description Programming Director
As a leader on the Black Voices programming team in New York City, you will help drive the direction of Black Voices Web site. Responsibilities include shaping Web site editorial direction, including interactive, multimedia content and special features, as well as optimizing content to drive increased usage. The successful candidate will have strong analytical and creative skills. Must work well in a collaborative environment, have a high degree of emotional maturity and be focused on results. Specific Responsibilities include: Analyze traffic trends, competitive landscape and industry trends to drive new programming that increases usage and engagement. Manage an editorial/production team. Lead matrixed teams that may include designers, project managers, coders, and business strategists. Manage day-to-day programming relationship with internal and external content partners (and commerce partners where applicable). Ensure that site is optimized for ad sales. Develop dynamic, exciting, relevant, actionable programming with strong attention to differentiating the AOL experience from the competition and developing a compelling voice. Skills and Experience Required: Journalism, writing, or editorial background and/or education. Strong understanding, background, and/or interest in African American issues, news and culture.. Excellent written, oral communication, and strong interpersonal skills required, with particular understanding of how to communicate to an online audience. Experience working with content management tools and publishing systems. Ability to coordinate projects and activities with multiple internal departments and external companies. Ability to work in a team environment, turn projects around quickly, and work in fast-paced, rapidly changing environment. Skills Desired: Editorial and online content development experience. Education: BS/BA in In Journalism, English, Communications or similar.
Responsibilities include:
* Work with Director on overall strategy and implementation of strategy
* Manage current and foster new relationships with content partners
* Coordinate the activities of various professionals, individual contributors and bloggers to meet project deadlines and budgets
* Create editorial calendar
* Research and present ideas for original content and programs
* Ensure the timely completion and delivery of programs
* Work with Director and sales on new Franchise opportunities
* Review and interpret member activity data and draw conclusions regarding their implication on programming operations and placement decisions
* Make data-driven programming decisions
* Manage Programming Team
* Work with sales to maximize revenue
* Communicate with business strategy and product development to ensure designs and implementation of new programs comply with channel standards
* Oversee promotion efforts of the channel
Qualifications:
* Minimum of 4-6 years directly related experience preferably with supervisory experience
* Strong online editorial experience
* Strong project management experience
* Background in daily publishing or online industry
* Understand the medium, industry, market and the audience
* Strong writing, editing and promotional skills.
* Possesses the ability to develop and maintain networking relationships both internally and externally.
