MHHE has an exciting opportunity for anEditorial Coordinator in our Humanities, Social Science and World Languages(HSSL) Division based out of ourNew York office.
The person in this role will manage assigned titles and monitor budgets for titles in coordination with sponsoring and developmental editors. Recommend developmental activities and support more senior staff to ensure timely and efficient product team workflow.
Essential Accountabilities include:
· Analyze and evaluate competing texts for titles assigned, create competitive comparisons, and make recommendations to authors based upon perceived strengths and weaknesses of competition.
· Develop the supplements and establish and monitor budgets for all assigned titles.
· Provide guidance in supplement preparation, submit turnover packets, and work in tandem with project managers to ensure timely publications. Commission supplement reviews when appropriate.
· Ensure that manuscripts are ready for production (e.g., checking final manuscript format against guidelines, checking page counts and art grids, verifying permissions are complete, etc.). If necessary, obtain permissions (e.g., written permissions, figures, cartoons, etc.) or advise author or freelancer.
· Manage assigned titles and monitor budgets in coordination with a sponsoring editor.
· Determine selection of review panels and make contact with reviewers to secure commitment, commission reviews, create questionnaires, manage schedules, process honoraria, and create and maintain review data files. Analyze and evaluate reviews and develop synopses
· Manage project managers to assure timely publication of software accompanying assigned texts (e.g., EZTest). Recommend creative scheduling, where appropriate or possible.
· Work with developmental editors to analyze author presentation and writing style.
· Provide directions to authors on revisions or draft manuscript (e.g., supply rewritten samples as models to follow, provide detailed instructions on factors to be incorporated in subsequent drafts).
· Manage or recommend developmental process for introductory market titles when appropriate.
Administrative Duties
· If an Editorial Assistant is unavailable, perform office support duties; submit invoices; order supplies; monitor supply budget; update databases; maintain project files; send mail and manage postage budget.
· Interface with contract department to create work-for-hire contracts and prepare publishing agreements. Ensure appropriate approvals and signatures are obtained and paperwork is filed.
· Update MPD with text details.
Marketing Collaboration
· Create necessary product information for marketing tool creation. Direct or recommend appropriate marketing activity for assigned titles.
Miscellaneous
· Campus travel and convention attendance as required
· Communicate regularly with team members.
· Perform all other duties as assigned.
