Position Purpose:
The Technology Database Group department is seeking a Summer 2008 Database Systems Intern. This position will work to ensure that the Database Systems Team can provide support to the Business teams and other Technology teams, by acting as the front line for all database questions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
* Assist in the management of high volume database systems
* Assist in the development of an enterprise data dictionary
* Assist in the tuning of queries developed by the Business teams.
* Provide the Software Engineering and Reporting Systems teams with answers to database questions
Skills:
* Experience with or related coursework in database structures and architectures.
* Experience with or related coursework in relational database management systems (ie, Oracle, MySQL, or SQL Server).
* Experience with or related coursework in UNIX, Solaris, or Linux operating systems.
Desired Characteristics:
* Strong verbal and written communication skills.
* Ability to rapidly comprehend new subject matter.
* Ability to rapidly apply new design concepts.
Education / Experience:
* Enrolled in Computer Sciences, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Systems Engineering, or related degree.
Schedule:
* Summer internship position starting in June 2008
* 40 hrs/wk desired; minimum of 20 hrs/wk
