We are seeking an experienced professional to directly manage the datacenter infrastructure operations within the Technology Operations department. As part of the Operations Department, this individual will report directly to the Department's Senior Director and manage two pivotal teams which support the datacenter: The Network and Security team and the Systems/Storage team.
The Director will be responsible for the day to day governance of the datacenter, proactive maintenance and capacity activities and will manage the above team's interactions with other company departments to support new products and capabilities. The ideal individual will have a breadth of experience with infrastructure operations in a 7 x 24 x 365 revenue generating datacenter environment, preferably with an Internet business presence. Also, working knowledge of Internet concepts, systems, networks, mass storage (SAN and NAS), monitoring/management, load balancing, hardware/application HA and clustering and multi-level backups is desired. The chosen individual will operate from the company's international headquarters in downtown Baltimore, MD.
Responsibilities include:
* Direct management of the Network and Security Team and Systems/Storage administration team
* Oversee inventory of assets and organization within all datacenters (AOL, SAVVIS and Equinix)
* Oversee installations, de-installations and movement of assets as is needed
* Oversee architecture of the logical product installations of various environments: Dev/test/QA and Production. This involves all necessary schematics and diagrams for working references by several teams
* Oversee organization and budgetary needs for all software licenses, hardware and software support contracts and new hardware purchases
* Maintain relationships with datacenter Account Executives for changes, production negotiations and order renewals
* Provide guidance and mentoring for Network and Systems/Storage Administration team managers.
* Participate in the creation and modification of process and procedures necessary for keeping the datacenter environments running stable. This includes proactive measures/programs and the proper scheduling of maintenance events through change control/management to insure optimal efficiency and minimizing production risks
* Be representative for Sr. Director in pertinent meetings and fill in when out of the office for vacations or business travel
* Work with Operations and Engineering team managers and Architects to optimize solutions for business project needs
* Other tasks as is deemed necessary
Required skills/experience
* 12+ years overall IT experience
* 7+ years experience in technology vertical of Networking, Systems administration or software development
* 5+ years managing teams of 15 or greater
* 5+ years with datacenter management, preferably collocation experiences.
* Experience with Project Management approaches and execution
* Outstanding communication skills (verbal and written) must be able to communicate with internal and external customers and all levels of management.
* Understanding of current and emerging technologies and processes
* Ability to work within tight deadlines
* Ability to work well in a high energy team environment
Education & Background
B.S. in Business, Computer Science or related field. Advanced degree preferred
