PURPOSE OF POSITION: Serve as a primary physician resource and EPIC project team member in support of the ongoing development and implementation of electronic health information systems related to the delivery of patient care at CCHMC.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Serve as a resource and content expert in the development of clinical systems at CCHMC.
2. Participates in clinical information system implementation teams to support excellence in patient care. Builds relationships and conducts needs assessments with patient care providers to fully understand their needs. Gains the support and consensus of clinician leadership and faculty regarding information technology needs and priorities. Develops recommendations based on needs assessments to improve technology, connectivity, and information.
3. Acts as a liaison with the Medical Staff, both institutional and community based, to ensure that informatics needs of inpatient, outpatient, and community clinicians are understood and communicated to the leadership of CCHMC.
4. Creates and maintains a highly organized catalogue of clinical content templates (text, phrases, sets, forms, order sets, etc.) and decision support rules. Manage changes to the catalog over time to eliminate redundancy and maximize efficiency of the catalog for the users.
5. Meets with physicians and clinic staff as part of a unit's planning to gather documentation requirements, advise on the use of the existing template catalogue, to facilitate planning for decision support, and to implement new templates and decision support functions rapidly within the existing catalogue. Respond to feedback about the developed content.
6. Develop educational procedures (written materials, in-person presentations, and lesson plans) and teach selected individuals (doctors, nurses, IS personnel, etc.) to build their own content. Manage their contributions to the catalogue.
7. Participate in on-site training activities targeted at physicians and advanced-practice nurses to build their proficiency at using the system. Participate in efforts designed to detect failure to gain proficiency and failure to use the system as designed and assist in efforts to remediate those failures.
8. Participate in workflow design, with particular attention to cases in which the clinical area involved does not have a physician champion available.
9. Maintain appropriate Epic certification through Epic's training programs.
10. Manage attendance at required Cincinnati Children's training sessions, including radiation safety, laboratory safety, bloodborne pathogens and OSHA. Enforce compliance with Infection Control policies and procedures.
11. Enhance professional knowledge by attending seminars and professional meetings. Implement knowledge into organizational procedures.
12. Participate in Cincinnati Children's governance through attendance or representation at meetings of the governing body.
13. Establish clear lines of responsibility and accountability within departments.
14. Support internal controls to safeguard the financial, information and human resources of Cincinnati Children's.
15. Understand, adhere to and model Core Standards as defined organizationally and specifically within the department/unit.
16. Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS: Excellent verbal, presentation, written and interpersonal communication skills.

Ability to educate and mentor. Extensive knowledge in project management philosophy with the ability to coordinate, plan and execute projects with wide-ranging and complicated interrelationships. Able to deliver projects on time and within budget. Must qualify for a faculty appointment at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine through one of the academic units based at Children's Hospital
EDUCATION\WORK EXPERIENCE: Physician required, pediatric experience preferred. Must obtain unrestricted medical license in Ohio. Practical experience with electronic health information systems in a hospital setting. Minimum three years of experience in clinical systems and process re-design. Informatics training preferred
