The Surface Computing Group at Microsoft is looking for a dynamic, innovative, and creative team player to join this exciting team as a Senior Manager of Marketing Communications -- Brand Strategy and Advertising Development. This individual will be responsible for the areas shown below.
Branding
o Brand Strategy: Serve as the brand champion for Surface
§ Evolve Surface’s overall branding strategy such that it will continue to set the standard for the emerging category of surface computing
§ Achieve strong brand definition by building consensus with various teams and executives around specific branding ideas
o External Brand Management: Manage the public presentation of the Surface brand
§ Ensure all marketing content reflects the branding strategy
§ Lead cross-discipline teams to implement the strategy for integrated marketing
o Business Group Brand Management: Direct brand architecture design and strategy across functional teams within the Surface Business Group
§ Work with Surface functional groups to shape and calibrate the group’s internal brand such that it is consistent with the external brand
o Product ID: Own the branding of Surface hardware, software, and packaging
§ Be the brand steward for product branding decisions
o Microsoft Brand Management: Serve as brand champion with key groups across Microsoft
§ Communicate the specifics of the Surface brand throughout Microsoft and manage integration with the overall Microsoft brand
§ Foster and utilize strong working relationships with Microsoft corporate brand owners
§ Ensure that Surface contributes positively to the Microsoft corporate brand
Advertising and Promotion
o Strategy: Develop overall advertising and promotions strategy for Surface
§ Guide the definition of plans such that they calibrate with the overall goals of the Surface Business Group
§ Define target audiences, budgets and segmentation for advertising and promotion
§ Leverage innovation and creativity to create programs that enhance the magic of Surface
§ Consistently develop new insights to improve performance
§ Engage with other Surface marketing communications disciplines to ensure that programs have maximum impact in the context of an integrated marketing communications plan
o Creative Development: Generate breakthrough customer interest in Surface
§ Develop extraordinary agency relationships that inspire results commensurate of our transformative product
§ Work with internal resources to develop creative for Surface that is consistent with agency work
o Oversight of Media Purchasing: Work with internal and external resources to develop targeted media plans for Surface
o Testing and Analysis: Work with internal marketing research resources to assess the effectiveness of advertising and promotions programs
§ Translate feedback on results into a strong, useful plan for further deployment
General Qualifications:
- 12+ years marketing experience
- Advertising or branding agency experience (either client-side management or agency-specific)
- Brand management experience that includes setting brand strategy, positioning and managing product look/feel
- Must have overseen the development of national advertising and promotions campaigns
- Experience managing new product introductions preferred
- Bachelors degree, MBA preferred
- Excellent inter-personal communication and people management skills
- Ability to travel internationally and domestically on an occasional basis
