Transportation Operations is a critical and complex function which controls the movement of raw materials, capital goods, work in process, administrative and clinical materials, as well as finished products throughout the supply chain.
Transportation Operations is committed to insuring the highest quality global service to our customers through the development of partnerships with carriers selected on the basis of mutual commitment to Abbott's absolute standards of service, price, safety and compliance to Federal and state regulations and continuous quality improvement
Performs carrier selection, negotiations and vendor management for Contract, Less than Truckload, Parcel and Special carriers for Abbott Laboratories leveraging transportation dollars on behalf of all Hospira operating groups.
The Junior Transportation Specialist is responsible for negotiation and carrier selection for transportation expense of $ 25 Million for shipments of finished products and raw materials.
Responsible for the identification, development and implementation of Transportation service enhancement and cost reduction programs. The Junior Transportation Specialist is accountable for $ 200M in annual cost savings programs. This individual assumes risk in the evaluation of the delicate cost versus service decisions and must rely on experience, critical analysis and sound judgment throughout this process.
Responsible for broad based goals to include the following:
Management of Transportation for 20+ Domestic distribution points.
Carrier negotiations (50+)
Performance management and Customer Service
Finished and Non-Finished goods transportation
Product returns / Reverse Logistics
Quality management (Protective Service, Haz-Mat, and Special services)
Skills/Experience Education/Certification College Graduate required, MBA Preferred
Broad business experience including customer service, distribution, computer or systems skills.
Ability to evaluate complex problems and present analytical findings, Strong systems and technical skills.
Project management experience
In depth knowledge of all modes of transportation and the demonstrated ability effectively use that knowledge to reduce costs and improve service.
Contract Negotiations and vendor management. A comprehensive understanding of carrier economics, operations and markets.
