POSITION SUMMARY
The Communications Assistant supports the Corporate Communications Department, assisting with all public relations activities, including employees' communications, media relations, community outreach and government affairs. Responsibilities include assist with writing, editing and distribution of all internal and external communications, serve as a member of the website team by managing the Company's Intranet on a day-to-day basis, assist in organizing and participating in corporate-sponsored events, including the annual Company Picnic, MS 150, Scholarship Luncheons and Employee Meetings. Participate in strategic partnerships, with external audiences, including Community Advisory Panels, Civic Clubs, Schools and Chambers of Commerce. Offer creative input for brainstorm related to communications activities and new initiatives. Monitor media, manager recap information and coordinate/track expenses for budget.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS
• Proficient in Associated Press (AP) writing style
• Excellent grammar/writing ability.
• Knowledge of MS Office products (including Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Publisher), desktop publishing/graphic design software (QuarkXpress preferred)
• Working knowledge of web site development and maintenance
• Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and work independently through initiatives and self-motivation.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing or a related discipline from an accredited college or university.
• New graduates to 5 years experience, preferred.
• Relevant past experience preferred. Writing samples required.
