Position Description
Obtain work assignments from lead, tie-in book, Boeing flight plan dispatcher or from customer inquiry. Operate radio and test equipment from tower to assist ground crew in preflight checking of aircraft (AC), as required. Perform clerical work using (e.g., personal computer (PC), fax machine) to accomplish radio station work assignments, as required. Transfer the necessary on line radio entry log and faxed Boeing flight plan information ( e.g., AC registration number, AC type, departure point, destination) onto the radio station flight record, as required. Wait for call from flight crew, select frequency from (e.g., high frequency (HF), very high frequency (VHF), ultra high frequency (UHF)), to AC for duration of flight. Perform visual check of AC prior to takeoff and landing , advise AC crew of observations found (e.g., fuel leak, low tires, panel open, landing gear not down, lights out) using binoculars, as required. Notify Boeing fire department to dispatch Boeing fire truck, emergency equipment and personnel, relay information on status of AP before takeoff (e.g., AP type, number of people on board), per Boeing (BCAG) specifications. Answer and advise all in-flight AC call requests for (e.g., weather report, emergencies) reply in a brief and clear manner, using the federal communication commission (FCC) call methods of (e.g., protocol, phraseology, phonics), as required. Ensure all radio station conversations to/from AC are monitored and tape recorded using the various designated FCC channels, as required. Assist and work with radio electronics technician to improvise and make emergency repairs or connections to meet BCAG specifications, as required. Use two way hand held radios to assist, radio electronics technician in the adjustment, of antennas on the radio station roof, as required. Keep and maintain radio station tie-in book, log and records, as required. Handle and dispose of hazardous materials in approved manner (e.g., alcohol wipes). Consult with lead, supervisor and/or others (e.g., radio technician, engineer), on transmission related issues, as required. Maintain certifications and licenses, as required.
Competencies
Operate computing equipment to access job information (e.g., drawings, specifications and other online information systems). Use basic math that includes addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Knowledge of radio frequency concepts and test equipment. Effectively communicate verbal information such as tie-ins and job related information. Effectively communicate written information such as tie-ins, reports and/or required documentation. Coordinate daily tasks with others to align priorities for smooth operation of joint workloads. Knowledge of safe working practices, emergency procedures and possible dangerous situations. Service multiple customers and keep track of what one is doing regardless of frequent interruptions. Follow oral/written instructions provided by the lead or supervisor. Knowledge of proper use, handling and disposal of hazardous materials per government regulations and Boeing procedures. "Think before acting," (e.g., anticipate outcome of an action, know if something looks wrong) and ask questions when necessary. Organize work efficiently. Solve problems with internal and/or external customers and/or suppliers.
Education and/or Experience
Must possess Federal Communication Commission General Radiotelephone Operator's license (FCC). Prefer High School education or greater.
Other Job related information
May be required to work all shifts in both Everett and Seattle locations. Current Boeing employees working in the Puget Sound must submit an ERT with a QTTP advisor to be considered in the eligible candidate pool.
