Job Title Principal Engineer, Software Lead, SFA
External Job Description The Principal Engineer works closely with software engineers to identify requirements-related issues, explore alternative resolutions and represent the software team when presenting the issues to a cross-functional team consisting of Technical Spec Writers, Marketing, Medical, Regulatory, Program, Software Development and Software Test Management.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Platform software design & overall system architecture covering features, functionality, reliability, and performance.
2. Manage and coordinate resources to achieve program objectives across a team consisting of permanent Hospira engineers as well as external technology and solution partners.
3. Product and software requirements definition and requirements process development. Cross-disciplinary requirements and design trade-offs.
4. Risk identification, assessment and mitigation, including creation of hazards analysis documents, and failure modes and effects criticality analysis documentation.
5. Identify approaches, make recommendations and implement advanced control methodologies, including software, electrical and electromechanical design & development.
Skills/Experience Education/Certification BS in Computer Science or related field is required, MS degree is preferred.
ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE:
~ 7+ years experience in software and systems engineering, including extensive functional and project management experience in software development for embedded applications.
~ 7+ years of embedded software design & development experience; strong knowledge of Real-Time Operating systems / Real-time Kernels / Device Drivers and Board Support Packages.
~ Experience in embedded user interface design and development, including performance constraints in an embedded environment.
~ Strong knowledge of Object Oriented analysis & design methodologies; hands on experience using OO case tools.
~ Hands on experience using development tools such as Emulators, logic analyzers and case tools.
~ Experience leading product definition efforts, software development, software testing, and project planning.
~ Strong verbal and written communication skills, including communicating project status to several levels up the management structure.
~ Medical products expertise strongly preferred, or mission critical applications.
