Description
The Childbirth Educator demonstrates advanced knowledge and skills in providing education programs for clients in the area of prenatal instruction.
Understands and satisfies the needs of clients based on the age being served.
Assists in determining the educational needs of the expectant family in collaboration with the childbirth coordinator and other instructors and assistants.
Teaches all childbirth and parenting classes scheduled and seeks appropriate/qualified substitute instructors when emergencies arise.
Maintains current competency and certification in the provisions of childbirth classes.
Secures and maintains instructional and reference material pertinent to current practice, ie: ICEA, AWHONN, DONA and ACOG guidelines and encourages use of these materials.
Qualifications
Required Job Qualifications include:
1 year OB experience or hold current childbirth certification required.
Prefer at least one year of experience in classroom education.
High school diploma/GED or greater.
CPR current.
Current certification with ICEA, Lamaze, BABE or other childbirth certification. If not certified, become certified with in 2 years of hire.
Excellent communication and teaching skills.
Ability to assess learning needs in self and others.
Must be able to work flexible schedule.
