Assists with the planning, merchandising, programming team to support the Buyer maximize the effectiveness of the Buying Unit and achieve sales, profits and market share objectives for the HSN.
Developing and submitting purchase orders
Obtaining and confirming retail price comparisons
Working with vendors to resolve shipping/delivery issues
Negotiating with vendors for discounts when delivery obligations aren’t met
Identifying market trends from trade journals, magazines and shopping and reporting on them to the buying team
Recognizing business issues and providing solutions
Working with Show Planners to develop strategy
Sourcing new vendors — investigating leads, obtaining samples as requested by Buyer/Associate Buyer
Assisting Buyer in product selection.
Gathering data from Day at a Glance Reports to analyze show performance
Preparing daily Show Recaps for Buyer or Associate Buyer regarding performance of individual items using established metrics (On Hand Inventory, Minutes of Air-Time, Percent Sales Through, and WNDPM).
Drawing conclusions from data and developing recommended strategies to maximize performance of individual items based on performance analysis and item information (price, etc.).
Presenting findings and recommendations to the Buyer.
Acting as Buyer/Associate Buyer’s representative during category shows with celebrities as required
Anchor of the office when Buyer/Associate Buyer are traveling
Communicating with in-house departments (ex. QA)
Coordinating host information meetings with vendors
Training and mentoring new Merchandise Assistants
Understanding of the merchandising process and product lifecycle
A working knowledge of the open to buy reports
Understanding and skill in performing basic retail calculations
3-5 Years experience
BS/BA degree
Excellent communications skills both written and oral
Highly organized and detail oriented
Ability to effectively prioritize tasks and manage multiple assignments at the same time
Effective problem solving skills
Ability to interact in a professional manner with all levels of HSN employees and external clients
Ability to spot trends and translate them into product suggestions desired by our target customer
Ability to analyze reports, draw conclusions and make recommendations
Intermediate to Advanced Knowledge of Word, Excel and Outlook (ex. Creating and formatting formulas, links, graphs, charts and presentations)
