PURPOSE OF POSITION: To perform statistical programming/analyses, and to develop and manage clinical and epidemiological databases, and manage data entry personnel.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.To perform statistical analyses and preparation of files for analysis, using clinical, epidemiological , and other databases under direction of Biostatistician.
2.To develop and maintain clinical and epidemiological databases and data entry systems under direction of Biostatistician.
3.To instruct and manage data entry personnel, and instruct then in the use of PC software.
4.To develop and debug programs to perform logging of records, facilitate data flow, and data checking, including comparisons of doubly entered data, range, cross, and other validity checks, of cross-sectional or longitudinal data, using SAS or other programs as needed.
5.To generate reports using SAS and other programs, under direction of Biostatistician, clinical investigators, and project coordinators.
6.To be willing to perform any other tasks as needed, including data entry.
7.Follow policies and procedures governing the handling of confidential information as defined by Cincinnati Children's mission and applicable laws and regulations. Review timeliness, accuracy, availability and security of information.
8.Provide services in a manner to be regularly and conveniently available to meet the needs of CHMC's patients, families and employees as determined by department management.
9.Participate in establishing job requirements and goals; perform duties at the desired level of competency.
10.Maintain currency in field through continuing education, literature and seminars. Implement this knowledge into the Cardiology unit. Develop knowledge and professional skills through cross-training, and attendance at department meetings.
11.Participate in improving organizational performance through recommending areas or approaches for improvement activities, performing new procedures, collecting data and providing input to department discussions.
12.Attend required Cincinnati Children's training sessions, including radiation safety, laboratory safety, bloodborne pathogens and OSHA. Comply with Infection Control policies and procedures. Ensure that work areas are organized and present a safe, accessible, effective and efficient environment for employees, patients and families.
13.Professional: Provide education to personnel, patients or family through structured presentations and unstructured interactions while performing test or resolving technical questions.
14.Understands, adheres to and models Core Standards as defined organizationally and specifically within the department/unit.
15.Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
REQUIRED SKILLS: Ability to produce and implement complex programs for data analysis, and for database management. Ability to use and interpret biostatistical software and interpret its output. Ab ility to link programs together, in order to maintain database in SAS. Should be able to manage personnel and have the ability to explain PC software to other personnel. Must be able to take and execute instructions from Biostatistician, and give instruction to data entry personnel. All with a minimum of supervision.
EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE: Knowledge of statistics, biostatistics, and of SAS. Also, knowledge of data entry systems, and database principles. SAS programming background, especially knowledge of statistical routines and FSP/AF. M.S. Biostatistics preferred. Or B.A./ B.S. in math/science with 1-3 years related experience.
