The Business & Economics imprint of the Higher Education division is looking for aDirector of Development in theirBurr Ridge, IL location.



Ensure competitive appeal of texts through developmental line editing and adherence to target market and project objectives as determined in consultation with the author, sponsoring editor, publisher, and editor-in-chief. Accountable for meeting sales forecasts for assigned projects.
Work with author, sponsoring editor, and publisher from concept stages of materials development until publication.
Establish, maintain, and meet manuscript development preparation schedules for assigned projects and projects assigned to developmental staff.
Recruit, evaluate, and assist in selecting freelance developmental line editors to work on high growth products identified by the publisher and editor-in-chief. Assist sponsoring editor in managing contracted freelance developmental line editors
Participate in conducting market research studies on selected projects.
Review assigned manuscripts to ensure correct form and arrange for reviewers when required; collect, analyze, edit and organize reviews for presentation to author.
Assist in evaluating the developmental progress of high growth products identified by the publisher and editor-in-chief.
Participate in focus groups and symposia related to assigned projects; assist in interpreting results.
Ensure assigned authors follow manuscript preparation guidelines.
Prepare, upon request, detailed product information summaries for sales and marketing.
Participate in pre-contractual recruitment of authors upon request.
Conduct developmental line editing training of select developmental staff members.
Perform all other duties as assigned.

Bachelor’s Degree
At least 7 full years of experience in developing college textbooks. Experience must include developmental line editing
A minimum of 2 years of experience managing developmental editors (freelancers and/or in-house staff)
