The Mobile Communications Business group ("MCB") develops, markets, and sells the Windows Mobile platform and Windows Live Mobile services. The MCB finance team is seeking a Finance Manager to be a key contributor in partnering with this business group. The position involves supporting the MCB Product Group (MCPG). This group is responsible for the MCB's Platform R&D efforts, and consists of over 1000 engineers in 9 countries helping to execute Microsoft's mobile communications investments including Windows Mobile.
The Finance Manager will be responsible for financial reporting and providing hands-on support to the business unit and spear-heading various special projects. They will provide accounting, financial reporting, forecast, P&L analysis, business planning, and budgeting of MCPG resources to ensure accurate internal and external reporting and facilitate executive decision making. The position also will include establishing and documenting internal controls to insure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley legislation.
Financial Reporting: Develop, publish and monitor key business metrics and measurement tools, including P&L statements, controllable cost statements, and scorecards. Develop executive-grade monthly financial report incorporating scorecards, executive summaries, built in business intelligence and actionable recommendations to drive bottom lines. Communicate monthly results to BG and corporate audiences. Provide content for SEC filings as needed.
P&L Analysis: Analyze results to understand performance against plan, trends, return on marketing and other discretionary spending. Assist with analyzing, and quantifying growth drivers of revenue streams cutting across accounts, product lines and geographies. Help identify, quantify and articulate new revenue opportunities to help drive revenue growth in the business. Explore new mechanisms to drive revenue growth including partnerships and revenue sharing.
Business Planning: Help manage and contribute to the business planning process, including Annual and three year Fiscal plans, Strategy Reviews, Mid-Year Reviews and Quarterly Business Reviews. Assist in preparation and consolidation of detailed operating budgets and forecast.
Fiduciary Services: Assist MCB finance team in managing timely and accurate monthly and quarterly close processes. Ensure fair and consistent representation of transactions in the financial statements, including revenue recognition, accruals, deferrals, capitalized items, and debt and equity investments. Ensure financial transactions and statements confirm with Microsoft Accounting Policies and GAAP, as appropriate. Manage intra-company transactions. Ensure adequate internal controls are in place and audit guidelines adhered to. Identify and implement process improvements as needed. Provide MCPG Admin Team with finance training as needed.
Recommended Qualifications:
3+ years of work experience in accounting/finance.
Strong accounting, analytical, communication and interpersonal skills required.
Intermediate to advanced Excel and Access skills required
Previous exposure to a Research and Development organization highly desirable
Previous experience in mobile industry is highly desirable
