Position Description
As a member of the MDS National Team, the Concurrent Test Training and Operations (CTTO) Integration and Test Planning Systems Engineer will assist in interface development and a phased implementation of the Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS) internal and external interfaces, while representing the National Team Systems Engineering (NTS) team. The engineer will be responsible for working with System Engineering Teams and Element Program offices to put together integration and test plans for Systems interfaces, including details of the interfaces to support current and proposed BMDS functionality and Element architectures. The primary focus will be in support of the development of deliverable Systems Engineering products and plans, assessments of changes to the baseline while identifying alternative methods and solutions in order to maintain technical content, schedule and operational utility. Extensive travel to the HSV area will be required until operations transition to HSV in 2010. Knowledge of System Engineering interface specifications and message-based interface design is required. Emphasis should be placed upon requirements development for interfaces supporting representative battle management and command and control functions and their associated information exchange requirements tied to specified performance metrics which will be used in planning integration and test planning efforts. Applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to lead activities to plan, design, develop and verify complex lifecycle balanced system of systems and system solutions. Leads others to evaluate customer/operational needs to define system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces. Leads analyses to optimize total system of systems and/or system architecture. Leads, develops, maintains and identifies improvements the planning, organization, implementation and monitoring of requirements management processes, tools, risk, issues, opportunity management and technology readiness assessment processes. Works under minimal direction/consultative direction.

ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. Level 5 - Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry and typically 14 to 19 years experience in an engineering classification or either a Master's degree with 12 to 17 years experience or a PhD degree with 9 to 14 years experience in an engineering classification. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates should have strong social and presentation skills and be able to perform in a fluid geographically distributed team environment. Also desired is familiarity of requirements management in DOORS and System Architect, or similar sytem information architecture tools. Also desired is familiarity with Missile Defense or one of BMDS Element Programs.
