Applies a thorough knowledge of general ledger and an extensive knowledge of accounting principles to business unit problem solving, situation analysis and general questions with the objective of meeting the information needs of the department and other business units, creating operational efficiencies and streamlining workflows. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Reviews and analyzes balance sheet reconcilements produced by the Accounting Operations group. Identifies any unusual balances that may represent a reconciliation issue. Ensures that appropriate application source documents, or a subsidiary ledger supports the reconcilements. Elevates reconcilement issues to management.
Provide general ledger representation on projects affecting the general ledger. Analyze GL processing impacts, accounting workflows and proactively work with impacted GL areas to prevent reconcilement issues.
Provide support for special projects. Examples would be acquisitions and analysis of corporate financial initiatives.
Provide support to Corporate Treasurys month-end close group. Responsible for the more complex general ledger tasks, which include research, reconciliation and tasks related to the close process.
Work duties are somewhat complex and require the ability to identify problems and evaluate results of problem solving efforts, as well as thorough knowledge of accounting principles. This position will also include reviewing and recommending changes in existing general ledger policies to adhere to GAAP accounting rules, writing procedures, report generation, troubleshooting and training, designing/implementing new databases, special projects and other duties assigned.
Work duties are somewhat complex and require judgment such as identifying problems and evaluating results of problem solving efforts.
Education: Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Finance is required, MBA or CPA preferred
Skills: Proficient in Microsoft PC products such as Access (able to create databases), Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook. Candidates should be self-motivated and able to work independently; GEAC (general ledger mainframe) skills a plus.
Experience: Five or more years experience in an accounting department is desired.
