Job Title Manager, Environmental, Health and Safety
External Job Description Hospira Boulder is an API Manufacturing site of approximately 100 employees. The site includes 24/7 12 hour shift GMP manufacturing (small and medium scale), QC/QA, drug development and administration.
The EHS Manager is responsible for developing, implementing and managing the environmental health and safety programs, policies, procedures and practices within the Hospira Boulder API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient) Manufacturing site with 1 exempt level direct report.
Essential Functions:
1. Develop, implement and maintain the Company's environmental, health and safety (EHS) program, policies and procedures for review and approval; provide leadership and effort to execute regulatory compliance; and report progress to senior management.
2. Audit the Company's environmental and safety programs to ensure regulatory compliance; develop and execute corrective action plans as appropriate, conduct appropriate internal plant audits, including safety and environmental equipment; monitor performance and compile and report on safety statistics
3. Inventory waste and pollution sources and implement changes in procedures, equipment, materials that reduce these inventories in a cost effective manner.
4. Develop or maintain EHS documentation for the Company e.g. emission calculations, waste characterizations, OSHA Recordables, annual reports, environmental permits and support calculations.
5. Manage the health and safety program, including industrial hygiene, and coordination of medical surveillance program. Responsible for Workers Comp Loss Control activities.
6. Represent the Company to outside interests, such as regulatory agencies, insurance agents, adjusters, consultants, vendors and Corporate EHS.
7. Develop initiatives to improve the safety conditions or reduce hazards in Company operational systems. Evaluate and implement continuous improvements in the EHS system. Establish beneficial and cost effective goals and systems to support attainment of goals.
8. Provide training (RCRA, safety and environmental) as required by EHS systems to all company employees; develop and implement record keeping systems to ensure accurate training records exist for all employees.
9. Act as emergency Coordinator responsible for responding to plant safety and environmental emergencies including emergency release of hazardous waste; coordinates response activities and is responsible for all external reporting activities.
10. Manage investigation, recording, reporting and recommended corrective actions for all incidents.
11. Ensure compliance with all corporate and government policies and regulations for employee health, safety and environmental protection.
Skills/Experience Education/Certification Qualifications/Education:
BS/BA in a scientific field or specialty in environmental, health and safety or equivalent work experience. CSP or CIP certification desireable. Previous experience with VPP programs a plus.
Knowledge/Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of solid experience working in one or more areas of environmental, health, and safety, in a process industry such as chemical manufacturing. Requires knowledge of industrial hygiene, safety compliance, wastewater, air pollution and hazardous waste regulations (local, state, and federal). Related experience in all aspects of environmental permits, compliance and pollution prevention is expected. Requires thorough knowledge of federal and state environmental and safety regulations and standards (e.g. OSHA, EPA, NIOSH, DOT, RCRA, etc)
Must have strong interpersonal/customer service skills and able to lead multi-disciplinary teams in incident reviews and problem solving.
Previous experience in working in a FDA regulated environment a definite plus.
