The School Solutions Group of McGraw-Hill Education has an immediate opening for an Illustrator to work in house at our Polaris location in Columbus, OH on a project basis.
This individual is responsible for producing creative, high-quality digital art following established styles to achieve requirements for K–12 textbooks. Strives to build files in the most efficient, versatile manner possible to yield file integrity, minimizing technical problems when placing in page layout software, ripping files for prepress output, and printing on the page. Remains well organized and prioritizes workload to meet multiple project deadlines. Working on a Macintosh platform, effectively applies a clear understanding of technology used for art creation and photo manipulation. Remains current with new illustration technologies, application upgrades, page layout applications, separations and other applications used for image data tracking.
Participates in the coordination, tracking and reporting of projects as required. Must work well independently as well as with a team. The individual is responsible for analyzing manuscripts and art/photo specs; coordinating project-related duties and implementing solutions; meeting fair representation targets; working with a team to maintain project goals and schedules. Foresees project problem areas, identifies solutions, and implements to maintain schedule and budget requirements.
Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree is required, preferably with an emphasis in art/illustration, or equivalent relevant work experience
Must have Macintosh expertise in Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign. Knowledge of Freehand, Microsoft Office, Quark.
Must have strong problem solving, organizational, and scheduling skills, be able to determine priorities.
Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to coordinate a project as well as follow the direction of others.
The ideal candidate will have knowledge of file-building and checking separations for 4-color and 1–2 color images, printing and binding processes as well as knowledge of electronic publishing processes/technology skills.
