Position Title: Sr. Manager - State & Local Audits
Manage the examination, protest, negotiation and conclusion/resolution of State and Local Income and Franchise tax audit activities for all open tax years for Chrysler Holding LLC and subsidiaries and Daimler North America Corporation (DNAC). Manage the establishment, computation and documentation of State and Local income and non-income tax reserves for all on-going audit examinations for Chrysler Holding LLC and subsidiaries and DNAC for all open tax years. Manage the tax accounting process associated with the multiple State Revenue Department audit examinations for all open years for the purpose of establishment of the State Income and non-income tax reserves for Chrysler Holding LLC and subsidiaries and DNAC. Provide the necessary tax technical State Income tax audit, State Income tax reserve, and transactional support to other functional areas within the OTA and to the Chrysler Holding LLC and DNAC corporate staffs as well as to Director - State/Local Tax Compliance, Audits and Planning.
State and Local Audit Activities
Manage the Chrysler Holding LLC Group and the former DaimlerChrysler Corp. (DCC) and DNAC State and Local Income and Franchise tax examination and protest processes for the State and Local tax audits for the various U.S. entities.
Reply to numerous (100+) Information Document Requests from the various State and Local tax jurisdictions during the course of the various on-going State audits with issues in dispute totaling in the tens of millions of dollars.
Reply to numerous (20+) Notices of Proposed Adjustments from the various State and Local tax auditors during the course of the various State audits with taxes in dispute totaling in the tens of millions of dollars.
Coordinate with the Tax Directors of all DNAC NAFTA Group subsidiary tax departments all responses to Information Document Requests and Notices of Proposed Adjustments received from the various State and Local tax auditors for the DNAC Group State and Local audits.
Manage and coordinate all issue resolution discussions and settlement negotiations with the State audit team case manager and outside legal counsel.
Coordinate all Taxpayer Proposed Adjustments, some of which involve tax disputes totaling in the millions of dollars.
Manage all tax computations relating to the various State and Local Income and Franchise tax examination and protest processes for the former DCC and DCNAH U.S. consolidated groups.
State and Local Income and Non-Income Tax Reserves
Manage the State and Local Income and non-income tax reserve process for on-going audit examinations for Chrysler Holding LLC and subsidiaries and DNAC.
Coordinate the State Income and non-income tax reserve process and the issues contained therein for on-going audit examinations with the Tax Director of the DCFSA LLC tax department.
Provide support to Corporate Accounting for the Chrysler LLC State and Local Income and non-income tax reserve process for state tax audit matters.
Provide analysis and support for the State and Local Income and non-income tax reserve balances included for the U.S. consolidated group for Chrysler Holding LLC and Subsidiaries and DNAC to the external auditors.
Tax Accounting
Assist and provide support to Corporate Accounting for all FAS 109 (Accounting for Income Taxes) coordination for all State Income tax audit issues.
Assist and provide support to Corporate Accounting for all FAS 5 (Accounting for Contingent Liabilities) coordination for all State non-income tax audit issues.
Assist and provide support for the FIN 48 documentation (Accounting for Uncertainty in Income Taxes) and analysis requirements for State and Local Income tax audit issues in accordance with both Generally Accepted Accounting Principles ("U.S. GAAP") and International Financial Reporting Standards ("IFRS").
Research, Planning and Transactional Analysis
Support the State compliance groups with research and analysis.
Provide "hypothetical" State tax computations for the U.S. tax filing groups to assist in planning and issue resolution strategies.
Monitor tax legislative/regulatory/judicial activities.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor degree in Accounting or Finance required.
Minimum of ten years experience (two years of supervisory experience) in income tax preparation, with an emphasis on corporate income/franchise tax, in either a Fortune 100 manufacturing company or a national/regional public accounting firm.
Experience should include a full understanding of the income tax laws, regulations and rulings of the fifty states and multiple local jurisdictions.
Preferred Qualifications
CPA designation preferred.
MBA, JD or Masters Degree in Taxation preferred.
