Position: Designer III
Department: Fossil & Hydro Engineering
Location: Somerset, MA
Reports to: Supervisor of Design
Status: Contract/Long Term
Position Summary:
The person holding this position is responsible for performing high level electrical design functions in a generating plant environment utilizing company and industry standards and guidelines.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Create and complete electrical design assignments with minimal supervision.
2. Check and approve drawings and design packages prepared by others
3. Prepare designs, calculations, equipment selections, studies and specifications
4. Oversee other designers, CAD operators and vendors.
5. Perform a number of functions in the field including walkdowns and design verification
Required Job-Related Qualifications:
1. Minimum of fifteen years of professional electrical design experience in a power plant environment.
2. Demonstrated field experience in an operating power plant
3. Minimum of five years of professional CAD experience (preferably MicroStation)
4. Proven expertise in both physical and conceptual electrical applications.
5. Working knowledge of Instrumentation and Controls
6. Sufficient experience and a demonstrated ability to plan, direct and take charge of technical work with minimal supervision.
7. Experience to direct others, assign work and take responsibility for completing tasks on time and within budget.
8. Capability to perform unsupervised field assignments.
9. Able to adapt to change, to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
10. Comfortable working in team environments, with other designers, engineers, vendors and contractors.
11. Familiarity with National Electric Code, IEEE and other industry standards.
12. Strong written and oral communication skills
13. Familiarity with cable routing and scheduling software is a plus.
