Job Title SR TRANS SPCLST
External Job Description Provide maximum value to the Hospira through the coordinated purchase of Transportation services in accordance with corporate policies and objectives.

The Senior Transportation Specialist performs carrier selection, negotiations and vendor management for the LTL, Truckload, Parcel, Air, Ocean and Freight Forwarder modes as appropriate for Hospira leveraging transportation dollars on behalf of all Hospira operating groups.

Responsible for the negotiations of $ 15 to 20 Million in transportation expenses for inbound raw materials, work in process, administrative shipping and outbound freight to customer shipments having a combined value of over $ 2.0 Billion.

Responsible for identification, development and implementation of transportation service and cost reduction / avoidance programs.

Responsible for the broadest impact goals to cover; finished goods, non-finished goods, administrative letters and parcels, inbound raw materials, capital goods, freight to customer and freight to warehouse, import / export transportation and product launches.

Performance and quality management for domestic LTL, Truckload, Parcel, Air, Ocean and Freight Forwarder international transportation for corporate agreements covering all of Hospira's operating groups.

Responsible for effective vendor management, from identification of service issues to implementation of corrective action plans to ensure transportation is an extension of the quality products and services that Hospira manufactures and distributes to its customers. Perform timely customer service resolution for both internal and external customers.

Responsible for the successful execution of Transportation, Logistics and Supply Channel projects and process's. These projects are often very complicated and require extensive preplanning and coordination between Hospira Operating Groups in manufacturing operations, customer service organizations and transportation service providers. These projects are highly visible to senior management and crucial to successful manufacturing and marketing strategies and have a direct impact on corporate sales results.

Performs independently across organizational lines to champion ideas and promote strategic carrier plans. Individual must tie together all the business requirements of the various operating groups and translate this into negotiation strategy that leverages carrier expense to improve service and reduce costs.

Establish and maintain carrier routings for shipments between Hospira Distribution Centers and warehouses, manufacturing plants, direct to customers, between vendors, and all other points within the Hospira Transportation network.

Responsible for reacting to and planning for potential service interruptions that would result from labor disruptions, acts of war, weather or natural disasters.

Promote Hospira as a preferred shipper through strong carrier relationships and contractual agreements. Participates in carrier and industry sponsored seminars, focus groups and other activities to influence actions favorable to Hospira.

Identification and implementation of latest technologies (EDI, computerized systems, carrier bar coding, parcel shipping and manifest systems, etc.) that will improve either productivity and garner efficiencies. Leadership role to champion ideas and seek implementation within all areas.

Maintain a high level of understanding of the legislative, regulatory, technological, and economic issues impacting the Transportation industry as well as the markets served by Hospira.

Provide guidance and leadership to junior staff members as required.

Transportation Operations is a critical function for Hospira and its operating groups and makes a major contribution to the achievement of each groups manufacturing, marketing, sales and profit objectives.
Skills/Experience Education/Certification A Bachelors Degree in Transportation, Logistics, Quantitative Business Analysis, Economics or General Business required. A Masters degree is preferred.

Knowledge and understanding of Excel (Spreadsheet) / Access (Database), systems and contract law.

Broad business experience including customer service, distribution, computer or systems skills: 7 -10 years of experience.
Demonstrated ability to evaluate complex problems and present analytical findings (3 - 5 years)

In depth knowledge of all modes of transportation and the demonstrated ability to effectively use that knowledge to reduce costs and improve service. (Domestic focus)
Has demonstrated skills in the negotiation carrier contracts and service agreements.
Has managed and executed complex RFP's / RFQ's for Transportation. (Domestic focus) (4-6 years).
