The Center for Health Communication (CHC) has distinctive competence in a science-based approach to social marketing and communications to advance public health in the U.S. CHC currently implements a diverse portfolio of social marketing, public relations and communication projects in the U.S. which are funded by the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, private associations and foundations on health issues such as obesity prevention, immunization, tobacco control, and injury prevention. The responsibilites of this position will be to support and provide leadership to the public relations capacity of the Center for Health Communication and to provide strategic public relations, media, and communications planning, oversight and consultation to multiple projects in the Center.
Senior Specialist - Public relations/Marketing will be responsible for providing strategic public relations, media, and communications planning, oversight and consultation to multiple projects in the Center. The incumbent will lead the design, development and evaluation of multiple national and community-based health projects.
Essential Job Functions: Oversee the conceptualization and development of multi-faceted communication campaigns, manage all phases of program implementation, oversee quality control and ensure that the program objectives are met;
Direct specialized teams of staff working on media materials, consumer and provider education products, training and technical assistance products, backgrounders, and issue summaries.
Development and maintenance of program partnerships and alliances;
Oversight of formative and summative health communications research;
Collaborate with and oversee production companies and media vendors to achieve program objectives.
Manage staff and consultants developing of media and partner outreach and products and programs for diverse audiences.
Identify issues and risks related to program implementation and suggests and carries out policy adjustments;
Contribute to the management, oversight, and professional development of Center staff;
Contribute substantially to new business development efforts and cross-Academy collaborations.

Education : Masters in one of the following or related fields: Communications , Marketing and Public Health required or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Experience : 10 year(s) of relevant experience required
Specific Knowledge Requirements : Masters degree in public health, communication marketing or related field required, or a combination of education and experience;
Minimum 10 years of experience managing and directing health communication and social marketing programs for federal health clients;
Knowledge of and experience in social marketing;
Knowledge of and experience in public relations, traditional marketing, and advertising;
Knowledge of media strategies, tactics, tools, and product branding;
Understanding of graphic design and print elements;
Experienced in how to approach and market to diverse audiences with culturally suitable materials and other media products;
New media knowledge, agency, and journalism experience a plus.
Skills : Ability to manage large, complicated and demanding projects under tight deadlines;
Demonstrated skills in writing, editing and effective dissemination of information to wide audiences.
Strong client relations skills that leads to high client satisfaction;
Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, pay attention to details and handle a variety of responsibilities efficiently and effectively;
Ability to apply research to program development;
Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
Demonstrated ability to think and write clearly, creatively and persuasively.
