McGraw-Hill Professional has an outstanding opportunity for aSenior Financial Analyst , based in our New York office.
The Senior Financial Analyst will focus on two key areas: all aspects of plant development costs and the monthly closing process.
Essential Accountabilities include:
Analyze, monitor and control prepublication costs - Act as the plant cost "controller," responsible for all financial aspects of prepublication or new product development costs. This includes creating a Plant Model to incorporate the authorized amounts, investment by calendar year, and amortization.
Maintain the accuracy and integrity of title information in the prepublication system, ensuring use of correct publication dates, plant estimates and amortization keys.
Maintain the plant pool, monitor plant investment, develop plant cost forecasts and budgets, and work with the business leaders to ensure that plant costs do not exceed budget.
Update product P&L's using final plant and promotion expense and communicate findings to management.
Review historical and expected sales curves by product group and recommend potential changes to amortization rates.
Monthly Close Process - Create and upload month-end required journal entries, analyzes results versus forecast and budget, and provide variance commentary to Controller.
Participate in month-end closing meetings, reviewing financial results of the group to ensure accuracy of financial statements.
Pay special attention to plant cost variances.
Work with Controller, prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
Financial Planning - Assist in the development of medium range plans (MRP), periodic budget updates (DOE), and strategic plans.
Other responsibilities include :
· Prepare quarterly reserve analysis for inventory and author advance balances
· Participate in the SOX internal control review and documentation process
· Assist with reporting and analysis, as required
· Respond to request for assistance from business leaders, particularly as it relates to plant
· Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance, economics, or related field
· CPA or MBA
· Minimum 3 years experience as an auditor or analyst
· Two years experience performing month-end close using general ledger software
· Strong analytical skills and judgment
· Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Access
· Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
· Excellent oral and written communication skills
· Ability to make recommendations and influence business decisions
· Publishing industry experience preferred. Experience with COGNOS, Hyperion, or Oracle preferred
