Salary Information: Starting pay is $15.547 per hour, plus excellent benefits . A six-month probationary period is required. (Note for state employees: This position is in the Administrative Support bargaining unit and is in pay schedule 02, pay range 12. Pay and benefits upon appointment for current or former state employees may vary according to the applicable pay transaction provisions.)
Introduction: The Workers Compensation Assistant 3 - Wage Analyst position is with the Division of Worker’s Compensation and is located in the GEF-1 building at 201 East Washington in downtown Madison, Wisconsin. This position is responsible for determining appropriate wages to use for calculating the correct compensation rate and for computing the amount of disability compensation due in disputed cases. Contacts insurance carriers and employers by phone and in writing to obtain information needed to resolve wage issues. Will be required to read, understand and interpret complex information such as statutes, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
Job Duties: This position independently:
Audits wage submissions for compensation purposes and ensures the correct rate is computed and paid.
Investigates and resolves disputes and problems associated with wage submissions and establishing correct benefit rates.
Instructs and informs Division personnel, insurance companies, law firms and the general public on wage provisions as defined by Worker's Compensation Law and historical interpretations. This includes conducting training sessions for insurance companies and self-insured employers in understanding wage law and how to report wages and improve reporting processes through the use of the internet.
Enters correct and complete wage and other claim information from injury reports and other documents into the Integrated Claims Information System and takes actions necessary to acquire additional information or to correct errors.
Conducts formal training presentations to insurance adjusters approximately 4-5 times per year.
Knowledge Required: Ability to read, comprehend and interpret complex information, including law and policy for use in performing job duties. Oral and written communication skills. Basic mathematical skills and knowledge, including the ability to perform mathematical calculations. Interpersonal and listening skills. Ability to use personal computer-based software systems. Telephone and customer service skills. Ability to work as an effective team member. Public speaking skills, including the ability to make presentations to groups.
