Responsibilities:
Assigns appropriate codes to all inpatient and ASU charts to maintain accurate and current information for billing, statistics and research.
Maintains communication with providers and finance department to insure appropriate reimbursement as established by departmental guidelines.
Adhere to reporting requirements by state registries and responds to IPRO denials as required by regulatory agencies.
Follows Hospital safety policies, Departmental policies and HIPAA-Confidentiality policies.
Performs concurrent review of inpatient medical records to evaluate patient acuity and documentation of services delivered; queries providers to clarify documentation; codes medical records on inpatient units; and educates providers on documentation guidelines.
Requirements:
Associate’s Degree, Coding Certification or RHIT
One year’s experience as an inpatient Coder DRG
