Wage Scale: 1 Location: Pierre, SD Typical Work Hours: Determined based on the needs of the business. Job Responsibilities:
Install or repair circuits, connects equipment to inside cable and makes cross connection in remote terminals, cross boxes and at the customer premise.
Conducts tests associated with the installation, repair, turn-up of designed circuits that include ISDN, DS0 – analog and digital, DS1, DS3 and optical circuits.
Performs test, turn-up, and repair of pair gain flex systems on both SLC and DLC at RT and CO locations.
Installs, maintains/repairs, and tests residential/small business telecommunication service (POTS and Broadband).
Locates and repairs air leaks in aerial, underground, and/or buried cable.
Locates, joins, repairs and rearranges cable and cable conductors in buildings and aerial or buried plant.
Initiates or performs cable cuts, transfer projects, and/or load balance cuts, and issues necessary cuts to prevent blocking.
Resolves customer issues and problems; insure customer satisfaction; and insures service is working to specifications before closing job.
Utilizes various testing devices such as the T-berd 209OSP/2310, Dynatel 956 series, Volt-ohm-meter, Sidekick, Transmission Measuring Sets, Acterna HST series, and metallic measuring device.
Locates, splice, repairs and rearranges cable and cable conductors in building and aerial or buried plant.
Performs trouble isolation of transport, customer and company communications components, cable and infrastructure from the customer's premise up to and including the central office.
Uses WFA and Word documents.
Reads engineering prints and diagrams.
Interfaces with other work groups to ensure that committed service test dates and times are met, and to test the integrity of service prior to customer release.
Works directly with customers to insure that services and applications are working properly and are in conformance to specifications.
Basic Job Qualifications:
At least six (6) months of experience within the last five years installing and repairing design services and Hi Cap equipment for business customers.
At least six (6) months of experience within the last five years installing, maintaining/repairing, and testing residential/small business telecommunication service, both POTS and HSI.
At least six (6) months of experience within the last five years installing or repairing circuits, connecting equipment to inside cable and making cross connections in remote terminals, cross boxes and at the customer premise.
At least six (6) months of experience within the last five years conducting tests associated with the installation, repair, and turn-up of designed circuits that include ISDN, DS0 – analog and digital, DS1, DS3 and optical circuits.
Experience maintaining/repairing and testing copper cable and/or fiber optic cable in an underground, aerial, or buried environment.
Basic electricity knowledge as it relates to telecommunications (through classes or on the job related training) including: reading & interpreting circuit diagrams, equipment drawings, & technical manuals, AC/DC usage and measurements.
Working knowledge of hand and power tools.
Working knowledge of test equipment (e.g., Tech Tad, Sidekick, Volt-ohm meter, Transmission Measuring) sets or comparable testing equipment.
Experience in connecting telecom color coded wires and cables to terminals, attaching or detaching various kinds of hardware to wires, cables, structures and poles.
Exposure to providing service to residential, business and government facilities.
Ability to meet work deadlines.
Experience in working on various computer systems (e.g. Windows, WFA).
Experience reading engineering prints and diagrams.
Employee’s weight and tools combined may not exceed 280-pound weight limit as specified by the manufacturer.
Ability to perform strenuous physical activities including, but not limited to lifting and/or moving up to 100 pounds.
Experience in using a body belt and safety straps.
Requires state drivers’ license and current satisfactory driving record.
Ability to perceive differences in telecom wire and cable colors.
Ability to provide efficient, quality service to both internal and external customers both face-to-face and over-the-phone.
Ability to work well with others to achieve common goals and to foster a cooperative climate, as well as to work independently in the field with little supervision.
Ability to perform job activities outdoors in different weather conditions (e.g., extreme cold and/or heat, inclement weather).
Ability to work in confined spaces (e.g., attics, crawl spaces, utility holes).
Preferred Job Qualifications:
At least twelve (12) months experience within the last five (5) years installing and repairing telecommunications equipment for business customers.
At least twelve (12) months of experience within the last five years installing, maintaining/repairing, and testing residential/small business telecommunication service, both POTS and HSI.
At least twelve (12) months of experience within the last five years installing or repairing circuits, connecting equipment to inside cable and making cross connections in remote terminals, cross boxes and at the customer premise.
At least twelve (12) months of experience within the last five years conducting tests associated with the installation, repair, and turn-up of designed circuits that include ISDN, DS0 – analog and digital, DS1, DS3 and optical circuits.
Certified to climb poles.
Experience working in teams or alone problem solving, coordinating testing and troubleshooting customer lines or toll lines.
Background in telecommunications and electronics.
Other Job Requirements:
Successful completion and passage of all applicable employment testing.
Selected candidate is required to remain in the position for a minimum of 30 months (Time in Title) and 18 months (Time in Location).
