PURPOSE OF POSITION: Provide laundry services and maintenance of supplies for the clean rodent facility. Maintain areas of responsibilities in compliance with AAALAC standards for the Veterinary Services Division of a Medical Center dedicated to the care of infants, children and adolescents.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Wash and dry materials required by the clean rodent facility.
2. Maintain washer and dryer in operational condition ' reporting any problems to appropriate coordinator.
3. Fold and wrap materials for autoclaving.
4. Maintain assigned work areas in compliance with Local, State and Federal regulations, AAALAC guidelines, and established standard operation procedures.
5. Keep laundry facility, changing rooms, and assigned areas clan and organized.
6. Provide and maintain sufficient supplies for the clean rodent facility's changing area.
7. Maintain tacky mats for clean rodent facility.
8. Transfer materials for investigators through the UV hoods.
9. Participate in the movement and storage of feed.
10. Participate in the continuing education program.
11. Responsible for making routine decisions within limits prescribed by established policies or by area coordinator.
12. Accomplish work tasks through detailed instructions from area coordinator.
13. Participate in establishing job requirements and goals; perform duties at the desired level of competency.
14. Provide services in a manner to be regularly and conveniently available to meet the needs of Cincinnati Children's patients, families, and employees as determined by divisional management and Cincinnati Children's governing body.
15. Maintain currency in field through continuing education, literature, and seminars. Implement this knowledge into the Veterinary Services Division.
16. Respect patient rights for informed consent and the handling of confidential information as described by Cincinnati Children's mission and applicable laws and regulations.
17. Participate in improving organizational performance through recommending areas of approaches for improvement activities, performing new procedures, collecting data and providing input to department discussions.
18. Ensure that work areas are organized and present a safe, accessible, effective, and efficient environment for employees, patients, and families.
19. Attend as required Cincinnati Children's training session, including radiation safety, laboratory safety, bloodborne pathogens, and OSHA. Comply with infectious control policies and procedures.
20. Understands, adheres to and models Core Standards as defined organizationally and specifically within the department/unit.
21. Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS: Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills. Capable of relating to diverse age and demographic backgrounds. Possess a courteous, positive and service oriented demeanor. Demonstrate high manual dexterity and attention to detail. Physical stamina sufficient to perform frequent bending, standing and lifting objects weighing 50 pounds or more in a warm and humid environment.
EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or equivalent. Appropriate vocational skills, minimum of three months experience in a laboratory animal facility, related field or equivalent. AALAS certification not required but preferred. Successful completion of the Purina Animal Care course is expected.
