Job Code: 228383
Location: WA - Redmond

Get your geek on and join the Embedded Windows team as we deliver a V1 product! We're delivering the technologies that enable customers to produce innovative, exciting, world-class embedded devices into a market that makes the PC market look small by comparison.

The Embedded Windows Test team needs an Embedded Developer in Quality Assurance (several openings at all levels).
We deliver the Embedded version of Windows that run devices like Robotics, Set Top Boxes, Automatic Teller Machines, Cash Registers, Kiosks (think CoinStar & Kodak), Slot Machines (think Ballys), Medical Equipment, Digital Billboards, Oil Platform monitoring equipment, Industrial Automation, etc...You can think of our OS as the platform of choice for the devices you don't want Windows Client or Server and where footprint, robustness and uptime are among the top criteria.

What's cool about our product team?

The Embedded Windows organization is growing and this is your opportunity to join a team that is targeting next-generation enterprise and consumer electronics devices. This team is also very focused on creating a great atmosphere.
On our team you will be challenged with an awesome opportunity to help people and organizations take advantage of the growing, lucrative, and exciting embedded market. This market is strategically important to Microsoft for a number of reasons, among them:
The embedded market opportunity is significantly larger than the entire PC market and is growing more rapidly (to a projection of 1.4 billion devices in 2009)
Embedded Windows is well positioned to empower the next generation of devices that are connected to Microsoft assets such as Windows Vista PCs, Servers and Live Services
The "next big thing" will likely be an embedded device, and Embedded Windows provides the opportunity for Microsoft to take a leading role

This group is known for their camaraderie and small team atmosphere. But the best part is the variety because you'll develop a working knowledge of many Windows features; you'll develop new technologies and suite of tools to address concerns unique to the Embedded space. You also get to interact with OEM developers customers through a variety of means, everything from MSDN whitepapers to on-site customer visits or blogging.

Responsibilities will include working closely with developers both inside and outside of Microsoft, architecting how to effectively and efficiently test low-level features from high-level APIs, ensuring that our code meets high security and reliability standards, and shipping some of these high-quality test suites to customers. This also means designing and shipping an 'Embedded Test Kit'.

You will also be working with various technology teams in Windows, MSR and other BGs to ensure they're delivering solutions that 'just work' with Embedded as they do with the rest of the Windows SKUs.

In this position you will have opportunity to get executive level visibility both in our business as well as in other business groups.

Job requirements:
Comfortable writing C/C++ or C# code and debugger expertise.
Good communication and collaboration skills.

Minimum of 3 years of product development experience.
A degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline is desired.
Knowledge of quality focused processes such as test automation, code coverage, developing test plans, test case development, and other engineering best practices.

Plusses include:
Expertise in low level OS concepts, Windows NT architecture/internals, Win32 API.
