GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF WORK: The Wyoming Department of Corrections is committed to public safety, and provides offenders with secure and humane treatment that gives them every opportunity for rehabilitation. We now seek an experienced Computer Technician. This position is highly challenging in a fast-paced work environment with new programs and systems coming on-line frequently.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: In this position, supporting users in all aspects of computer and peripheral use;
manages approved upgrads on existing equipment and software; installing new equipment; analyzing existing systems and recommending changes; troubleshooting hardware and software problems; investigating and making recommendations of software packages; overseeing all network, telecommunication, and telephone functions to provide stability, connectivity and integrity of in-house voice, data, video, and wireless network services; maintaining data for various statistics; analyzing current user procedures for improvement and automation. Assist in supervision of data entry inmate workers and documentation of inmate behavior. Resolve phone problems for both staff and inmate phone systems.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Knowledge of computer hardware, communications, networking, programming
and operating systems; knowledge of phone systems; skill in programming, troubleshooting and installation; skill in maintaining and repairing computer equipment; skill in HTML and Java programming; skill in working independently; skill in assessing situations and suggesting improvments; skill in training users; skill in communicating with all levels of personnel; skill in coping with stress and managing a fast-paced workload; ability to work around convicted felons; ability to work overtime when required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of training & experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or closely related degree OR four years of professional work experience in diagnosing, installing, maintaining and supporting computer hardware and software for end users.
Candidates will be required to submit to urinalysis testing to screen for illegal drug use and must successfully pass criminal history investigation and reference checks, prior to appointment.
