AGENCY HIRING RANGE: $2,631.00 - $2,966.00 Per Month
DEPARTMENT: Department of Corrections, Prisons, Honor Conservation Camp
LOCATION: Newcastle

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Responsible for the management and operation of the institutional canteen system to include ordering, receiving, storage, and sale of various merchandise for resale to the inmate population, provides direct supervision to canteen clerks and inmate workers; maintains a computerized canteen sales and inventory system; assists in all phases of the institutional warehouse; assumes the duties of the Warehouse Manager when necessary, takes care of institutional purchasing, fixed assets, facility inventory and insurance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Responsible for overall management of the institutional Canteen Inventory System
which includes monthly inventory; trains canteen clerks and inmate workers; establishes and modifies commissary rules and procedures to facilitate the successful operation of commissary programs; responsible for institutional purchasing, fixed assets management; institutional inventory, processing and tracking Institutional Insurance claims and reports; supervises inmate workers and canteen clerks on a daily basis; establishes inmate work assignments, shifts, and training schedules; provides updated canteen lists to all housing units; prepares monthly profit and loss statements; purchases a variety of products; maintains Canteen inventory; inspects the canteen area to ensure all health, safety and security procedures are being properly administered.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Knowledge of the operation of a prison system; knowledge and understanding of the
philosophy of custody/security within a prison; knowledge of procedures, principles, concepts and methods of purchasing and inventory control; knowledge of regulations for health, safety and security including Health Department, Fire Marshall, and OSHA regulations; skills in accounting, inventory control and retail store management; skills in oral and written communications; skills in supervision and training of inmate workers; skills in customer relations; skill in decision-making; ability to work in a physically challenging environment; ability to establish good working relationships with staff; ability to be flexible and able to work with other departments and agencies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of training and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in accounting, economics, statistics, finance, business or closely related field, OR four years of professional work experience in accounting, auditing, budgeting, bookkeeping or fiscal work.

Candidates will be subject to background and reference investigation and shall be required to submit to urinalysis testing to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
