Position Description
This position will require individuals with non-current related aerospace experience to pass up to 160 hours of unpaid pre-employment training. If hired, employees must successfully pass additional paid training. Shift assignment may be any shift. Most positions are for swing. Shift assignment during training may differ from work shift assignment. Successful employees in these positions have a positive attitude, work well in teams & independently, have good hand/eye coordination, are conscientious of safety & quality, attend work on time every day, and are willing to work overtime as required to keep up with a fast paced schedule, may be up to 12 hour days, 7 days per week. Mechanics in these positions assemble & install structural aircraft skins & sub-assemblies, and install & adjust system components. These are physically demanding jobs that perform repetitive tasks on very large aircraft structures including wings & fuselage in awkward positions including overhead work, below floor level work, reaching & leaning. Mechanics must climb ladders and crawl thru small/confined spaces. Mechanics may work at extreme heights on scaffolding & lifting devices up to 60 feet high. Most positions require operation of heavy tools (15-30 lbs). Employment in this position also requires lifting and pushing/pulling up to 35 pounds, rotation of head/neck, bending and twisting at the waist, walking, standing, kneeling, reaching, sitting, climbing/balancing, use of high and low impact vibratory tools, flexion/extension, contact with metals, lubricants, solvents and plastics, exposure to noise, and the use of personal safety gear for face, eyes, hand/arm and ears. This requisition will staff the following jobs across Puget Sound in Auburn, Seattle, Frederickson, Renton, and Everett: 19104 ? Assembler Precision Bench, 22304 ? Wing Skin Mechanic, 30304 ? Assembler Installer General, 30504 ? Assembler Installer Structures, 31004 ? Assembler Installer Wing Structures and C0804 ? Assembler Weld & Duct. Additional Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities: Review schedule plan to determine which job to work on and obtain appropriate drawings for job. Locate work area using drawings & specifications written in English which specifies airplane number, section number, and three-point location. Obtain pre-picked detail parts and assemblies. Ensure that parts selected or issued are correct for the airplane and are free of visible defects. Set up assembly tools per tooling instructions or drawing. Align parts and secure in place using temporary fasteners, tooling or hand clamps. Shim and/or trim parts as required. Select drill bits, reamers and/or countersinking tools for pilot and full size holes. Locate, drill, ream & countersink pilot & full sized holes in proper sequence Install fasteners in correct sequence per drawing, using correct tools (e.g., rivet gun and bucking bar, drill motor, power screwdriver, C-squeeze, ratchet wrench, nut runner). Disassemble parts and deburr holes to prepare for installation of fasteners. Use solvents to clean surfaces prior to application of sealant, alodine, primer, adhesives, or special finishes. Load and unload ovens to bond detail parts to assemblies. Apply permanent or temporary part mark and protective material to assemblies for preparation of shipment. Handle and dispose of hazardous materials in approved manner. Cold work holes to prepare for close tolerance fastener installation. Install bushings into housings using arbor press and/or hydraulic puller. Apply liquid nitrogen to facilitate installation of bushings. Check work at various stages of assembly for correctness
Competencies
Drill, ream, hone, bore, lap and/or countersink straight and close tolerance holes.
Make basic layouts on parts or assemblies in order to establish reference points and to check dimensions.
Operate computing equipment to access job information (e.g., drawings, specifications and other online information systems).
Read and interpret engineering drawings. Capable of visualizing a three-dimensional shape from a two-dimensional view, converting left-hand to right-hand views and understanding symbols, flag notes, and general notes.
Use math that includes addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals and fractions.
Use various types of floor-mounted power tools (e.g. bandsaw, grinder, drill press, disk sander).
Use various types of hand tools and/or hand-held power tools.
Use various types of precision measuring tools.
Work with others as part of a team which includes giving and receiving feedback, assisting others in completion of tasks; possess interpersonal, listening, and participation skills.
Education and/or Experience
High school graduate or GED preferred.
