The Mobile Communications Product Group, which ships Windows Mobile to the market, is creating a dedicated team to own the end-to-end experience for Mobile Internet Devices estimated to be a 40 to 120 million market by 2012. Our immediate goal is to create a mobile device that is small enough to take everywhere, but large enough to have a great web experience. User Experience and User Interface are the single most important part of making the web and Rich Internet Applications work on a 4" to 6" screen, and we are looking for an outstanding senior software developer to help us realize this vision.
The mobile Internet will become ubiquitous with emergence of wide area, high speed wireless networks. Social networking, online commerce and web-based entertainment are already part of our daily activities. A mobile device needs to surface these experiences in a natural and intuitive way through the browser, Rich Internet Applications (RIA) and Web Services. The user experience needs to be simple, yet elegant and sophisticated with style and attitude. It should delight the user, creating a strong emotional connection. We achieve that goal when our users feel that they can't leave home without our product.
This is a very exciting opportunity that puts you at the center of a v1 product that we ship within the next 24 months. You must be very passionate about user experience and super excited about the opportunity to work closely with a creative and talented design team. You are already Web and Internet savvy. You feel empowered to innovate and you defy constraining assumptions and the norm. Mediocre UX is not in your vocabulary - you are about the breakthrough. You look for that sweet spot bringing in hardware and software innovations to their maximum potential delivering rich user experience of the Web and Internet to the mobile device. Perhaps fresh to mind here are recently popularized technologies like multi-touch and the use of an accelerometer.
You must have experience in the driving seat of shipping consumer electronic products. You have customers in your focus. Your role in the development team is the guru of product experience. In this role you must have excellent verbal and communication skills allowing you to collaborate and articulate ideas effectively. You should be familiar with and have experience in using UI related development tools like XAML, Windows Presentation Foundation, Silverlight, Microsoft Expression Blend, .NET, or the equivalent, and in products utilizing physical interaction design like touch-screens. And finally you must have strong analytical problem solving skills and a proven track record showing a methodical approach to designing and writing rock solid, well structured, high quality code in a multithreaded operating system.
You must possess a BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience and have at least 5 years of development experience in C, C++, or managed environment.
