Coordinator -Risk Management

Description
The Risk Coordinator/Clinical Patient Safety Officer will direct the clinical and operational risk management program, including the functions of clinical risk management, claims management, quality data collection, program administration, performance improvement and risk management education for this facility. Reporting to the Director of Quality/Risk Management, this individual will be responsible for coordinating those systems necessary for identification, evaluation, monitoring, performance improvement, reduction and/or elimination of professional and general liability risk exposures, including Occurrence Reports. She/he will provide counseling and education to facility leadership, clinical personnel, and medical staff members related to risk exposures including risk prevention and risk reduction. The Risk /Patient Safety Officer will participate in the management and support of professional liability litigation at the direction and under the guidance of the HCI Department of Claims.
Qualifications
1. Education:
Registered Nurse
Baccalaureate degree (healthcare-related degree a plus).
2. Experience:
Minimum of 5 years health care experience (clinical experience preferred).
Minimum of 2 years experience in clinical risk management preferred.
Supervisory and/or management experience required.
3. Specific Requirements:
Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Texas.
Possess the ability to deal tactfully with medical staff members, hospital personnel, state, local and federal agency personnel as well as other members of the health care team.
Comfortable and skilled at working with physicians, health care providers and other stakeholders in the organization.
Broad knowledge and familiarity with healthcare related regulatory and accreditation requirements.
Knowledgeable about JCAHO requirements and Risk Management issues for hospital-based plan and medical staff.
Analytical skills including a working knowledge of basic statistics and statistical analysis methodologies.
Must be highly analytical, logical and organized in approaching tasks.
Capable of gaining immediate credibility with individuals through experience, presentation, communication skills, empathy and compassion.
Ability to collect, aggregate and analyze data and develop action plans for clinical risk reduction
Possess the ability to prioritize responsibilities and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, including negotiation skills when dealing with complaint resolution.
Possess innovative problem solving abilities.
Knowledge of PC based computer software, i.e. Word, Excel, Access and/or similar systems preferred.
Meets requirements of local jurisdiction for risk management certification
