This position is for an Electrical Engineer to be part of the Xbox 360 console development team. The team is responsible for aggressive cost reduction of the console throughout the life of the product as well as expanding the market for the console in derivative products. The position involves working closely with a cross functional team of electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, test engineers, CAD engineers, component engineers, manufacturing engineers, technologists, procurement and program managers in multiple locations.
The responsibilities of this position are focused on generating power delivery requirements, designing, implementing and verifying optimal and cost effective solutions for the Xbox 360 motherboard and power supply.
Power delivery requirement generation includes working with chip designers, package designers, board designers, development and extraction of board power delivery models, modeling and performing analog simulations for the power delivery path from the power converter to the silicon.
Implementation includes thorough design and cost analysis, complete schematic design and component selection. Knowledge of input and output filter design, power component selection, feedback loop compensation design, tolerance analysis, power dissipation and thermal analysis, hold-up time analysis, stress analysis, ripple current analysis, capacitor life calculations and failure modes effects and analysis are required. This position requires the ability to generate schematics and PCB layout requirements and to work with the CAD engineer to implement a board level power delivery design that meets all system requirements.
Verification knowledge in frequency response analysis, compensation loop analysis for proper gain and phase margin for stability, DC and AC load line analysis, and transient response analysis is required.
This requires a strong team player who is has strong communication skills, has the ability to learn quickly, analyze and implement new solutions, break down complex issues and collaborate across cross functional teams to resolve issues in a timely manner and is able to clearly express ideas in verbal and written forms. Must be able to plan work, and work to a plan adapting as necessary in a rapidly evolving environment.
Qualifications:
Minimum BS/MS in Electrical Engineering.
A solid understanding of core engineering principles, circuit design and analysis are required.
Minimum five years of experience designing, testing and release to manufacturing of DC-DC switching power supplies.
Design for EMI, manufacturing and test are required.
Strong bench evaluation and in-lab debugging skills are required.
Strong knowledge of package and motherboard power delivery and signal integrity design practices and industry trends a plus.
Failure modes effects and analysis a plus.
Familiarity with PC, embedded system architectures hardware and software a plus.
Knowledge of high volume consumer electronics design and manufacturing is desired.
MathCad experience a plus.
Must be enthusiastic, motivated and self driven.
Domestic and international travel may be required.
