John Deere Des Moines Works is looking for a Product Design Engineer with a focus on current product design improvements and enhancements within the Tillage Engineering group. In this position, you will:
Perform design work that will include structures, weldments, castings, hydraulics and sheet metal.
Use creativity to develop new solutions to design problems for Tillage equipment.
Analyze warranty problems to understand root cause and develop action plans to resolve.
Use available engineering tools and tests to validate solutions.
Maintain strong focus on cost reduction without compromising function and quality.
Understand present needs and anticipate future needs of Tillage equipment customers, and maintain awareness of marketplace competition.
Design solutions that meet regulatory and safety requirements.
Work closely with Marketing, Manufacturing, and Supply Management to implement new designs to production, on time, while meeting quality, cost, and performance goals.
Work with Manufacturing and Product Support to resolve current production and field service problems.
Create models for systems, assemblies, using Pro-E.
Document part and assembly specifications.
Education
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Agricultural Engineering or 6+ years of equivalent experience.
Required Skills and Experience
2+ years of actual product design and/or testing experience.
Knowledge and interest in multiple functional areas such as frames-structures, linkages, hydraulics and overall implement design.
2+ years of Pro/E or equivalent 3D CAD design experience.
Must be able to work with a variety of organizations, including Manufacturing, Marketing, other design teams, technical support teams, and final customer.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
Desired Skills and Experience
Experience with Tillage implements.
Development of Product Verification & Validation plans.
Understandings of stress test results and use to improve design.
Excellent Leadership and team building skills desired.
Strong farm background or related experience.
