Position Description
The GMD Radars Sea Based X-band Radar (SBX) Vessel Engineering Manager is responsible for SBX life cycle engineering and execution; providing and managing SBX Responsible Engineer (RE) support; shipyard planning and management; guiding activities of shipyard support subcontractors; managing platform development suppliers; vessel modeling and simulations; vessel to payload interface performance; root cause and corrective action for vessel system Non-Conformances; and vessel systems to payload interface performance. The SBX Vessel Engineering Manager will be the primary interface to the GMD Weapon System Operations and Sustainment (WSOPS) team, and primary point of contact for the Missile Defense Agency Mobile Sensors Program Manager for the SBX vessel. Primary responsibilities include: SBX life cycle engineering and execution; providing and managing SBX RE support; shipyard planning and management; guiding activities of shipyard support subcontractors; managing platform development suppliers; vessel modeling and simulations; vessel to payload interface performance; root cause and corrective action for vessel system Non-Conformances; and vessel systems to payload interface performance. This position will also be responsible for articulating and defending positions within the group to other stakeholders in the organization, and working closely with customer counterparts in all aspects of SBX Vessel development. Responsible for managing Cost Accounts. This position manages employees and first-level managers performing activities within multiple (2 or more) Engineering disciplines; develops and executes integrated departmental plans, policies and procedures and provides input on departmental business and technical strategies, goals, objectives; acquires resources for department activities, provides technical management of suppliers and leads process improvements; develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners and direct reports; provides oversight and approval of technical approaches, products and processes; and manages, develops and motivates employees and first-level managers. Desired: Experience in large program integration. Prior GMD experience. Experience in planning and execution on major programs. Demonstrated ability to coordinate/cooperate with people in geographically dispersed areas. Demonstrated ability to use processes and tools to blend people from different skill areas/geographic locations into effective teams.
