GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Conducts educational programs for inmates at the Wyoming Women's Center; may assist with planning, supervising and assigning work tasks to inmates for a variety of technical or vocational programs; may evaluate inmates in the performance of their assignments; prepares and maintains records as required; assist other members of the education staff as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Coordinates and provides instruction to inmates housed at WWC and provides
individual and group education services as needed; may assist with assessments and management of inmate educational records; provides instruction to improve basic skills and assists with preparation for Adult Basic Education (ABE)/General Education Development (GED) testing; administers educational placement and general aptitude tests to inmates; other duties as assigned by the Education Manager.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Ability to communicate and interact with low to high functioning adults; good
understanding of security procedures; ability to explain concepts utilizing different methods; ability to use audio visual equipment; knowledge of all aspects of safety, i.e. work areas, blood born pathogens; knowledge of correctional custody, law enforcement or security; skills in use of office equipment, typing and computer
applications to include Microsoft Word and Excel; skill in problem solving and communication; ability to teach and supervise incarcerated inmates.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in Education PLUS possession of or proof of ability to secure a Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board Certificate.
Candidates will be required to submit to urinalysis testing to screen for illegal drug use and must successfully pass criminal history investigation and reference checks, prior to appointment.
