GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Manage an aquaculture program including; overseeing the Tilapia growing program and supervising inmate workers; develop and deliver curriculum and on-the-job training as needed; assist with decision making in regards to a productive aquaculture operation and resource allocation; assist with managing the aquaculture operations budget; coordinate and integrate activities to maximize aquaculture productions; assist facility and central office staff in ensuring adequate availability of training opportunities for inmates; provide record keeping and monthly statistical and fiscal reports to Central Office; participate in administrative meetings providing input on the aquaculture program and budget; complete office duties including filing, answering phone, customer service, and data base maintenance.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Manage and supervise the aquaculture program operation; participate in operational planning including budgeting, long term goals, educational programs and product profitability; assist with the management of the inmates involved in the aquaculture program to include job performance, training, record keeping and payroll; assist with the development of polices and procedures for the aquaculture program; attend mandatory training; participate in meetings that include facility management and Central Office personnel.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Ability to manage the aquaculture enterprise; ability to assist with the supervision, instruction and training of both inmates and staff; skill in leading and developing a team; ability to assist with the development and implementation of a long term plan for the Aquaculture program; skill in interpersonal communication; knowledge of state, federal and local laws that pertain to this program; ability to assist in the development and working within a budget; skill in computer and office duties.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of training and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in wildlife management, range management, biology, zoology, ichthyology or closely related field, PLUS two years of professional work experience in wildlife or fish resource management, research or habitat development, OR a master's degree in wildlife management, biology, zoology, ichthyology, range management or closely related field.
Candidates will be subject to background and reference investigation and shall be required to submit to urinalysis testing to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
Preference will be given to applicants with a degree in Aquaculture, knowledge of recirculating system and experience with Tilapia fishery management.
