GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Performs maintenance of electrical equipment; troubleshoots and repairs electrical and electronic systems in all areas of the facility to include lighting, heating, air conditioning, kitchen equipment, laundry equipment, security systems, locks, and motors; will cross-train in all aspects of the Maintenance Dept. and be subject to recall on a rotational basis in response to emergency situations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Maintains, troubleshoots and repairs lighting systems, surveillance cameras, interlock switches, main feed breakers, conductors and circuit breakers; maintains electrical security systems and their components; performs system checks to ensure that all security equipment is operational; maintains electrical component of HVAC system, electrical motors, and safety smoke and fire shut down notification systems; maintains electrical components of kitchen and laundry equipment; installs and wires new and replacement appliances; supervises and provides training to a work crew of inmate workers.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Knowledge of basic electrical codes; knowledge of current electrical safety practices; knowledge of lock-out/tag-out procedures; knowledge of commercial kitchen and laundry equipment; skill in basic computer operation; skill in maintaining and troubleshooting indoor and outdoor lighting systems; skill in maintaining all on-site electrical equipment; ability to maintain standby power supply; skill in supervision of subordinate workers; skill in oral, verbal and written communication.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of training and experience equivalent to a high school diploma, PLUS four years of work experience in installation, wiring, testing and repair of electrical systems and equipment.
