GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF WORK: The Wyoming Department of Corrections is committed to public safety, and provides offenders with secure and humane treatment that gives them every opportunity for rehabilitation. We offer a safe and supportive working environment for our staff members, who are the strength of our organization and enable us to achieve our objectives. We now seek an experienced professionals to conduct drug and alcohol assessments with felony offenders in their assigned counties and in institutions; may also conduct substance abuse assessments in other parts of the state on an as-needed basis; frequent travel required. We are hiring for six (6) assessors in the following Counties: Sweetwater/Uinta, Albany, Laramie, Natrona, Freemont, Sheridan/Cambell.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Conducts drug and alcohol assessments on felony offenders using ASI/ASAM and other standard assessment tools; generates substance abuse reports and recommendations for probation/parole officers and the court; meets with the offender in community settings and in institutions; provides referrals for offenders with emergent needs; attends monthly supervisory meetings.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Knowledge of ASI/ASAM assessment tools and addictions theory; skill in conducting assessments and making recommendations from findings; knowledge of the Addicted Offender Accountability Act (AOAA); knowledge of the criminal justice system and Wyoming Court System; knowledge of treatment resources in Wyoming, knowledge of treatment issues that occur with the criminal justice population, knowledge of human behavior, knowledge of mental health disorders, crisis behavior and substance use and abuse; knowledge of department policies and procedures; skill in use of a personal computer; skill in oral and written communications; skill in grammar and spelling; skill in interpersonal relations; skill in work organization; ability to maintain confidentiality of privileged information.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of training and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in social work, counseling, sociology, psychology, criminal justice, or administration of justice or closely related field, PLUS two years of professional work experience in social work, counseling, correctional rehabilitation or closely related field.
NOTE: Positions in this class will require a background information check, INCLUDING the taking of fingerprints, which will be completed through the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation, the Department of Family Services and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, for every successful applicant.
Preference will be given to candidates who are certified or licensed mental health/substance abuse practitioners. A Masters degree in a human services related field is also preferred.
Candidates will be required to submit to urinalysis testing to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment; must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship; must successfully pass criminal history investigation.
