John Deere Credit, located in Johnston, Iowa, is seeking an Assistant Chief Counsel to provide additional legal support to its growing Wind Energy business unit. John Deere Wind Energy develops, builds, owns, operates and manages utility scale, community based wind energy projects across the United States and Canada. The attorney will provide legal advice to the business unit on such diverse matters as turbine procurement, federal and state utility regulatory matters, construction management, land leases, title insurance, property damage and liability insurance, tax and accounting issues, formation and governance of legal entities, equity investments, and long-term debt financing. The attorney will take a leadership role in determining courses of action consistent with the company's objectives and the individual’s legal training and experience in the renewable energy industry.
Major Duties:
Provides research, recommendations, and alternatives for significant legal questions and issues.
Drafts, negotiates, and/or files legal documents including opinions, contracts, notices, agreements, registrations, and licenses.
Represents John Deere Wind Energy in negotiating business transactions with third parties and their counsel to reach agreement on business transactions.
Manages commercial matters to ensure John Deere Wind Energy’s legal rights are pursued and protected.
Works closely with senior management to evaluate the legal impact of major decisions.
Stays current on emerging trends in the law and the industry through continuing legal education, reading, professional conferences, and participating in professional associations.
Significant utility market knowledge, experience and expertise in the areas of utility marketing, power sale, interconnection, transmission and permitting.
Project management experience including plan development, budget management, team management, requirements gathering, delivery and deployment.
Significant prior experience planning, executing and advising on complex transactions in an area of specialization, such as Mergers & Acquisitions, Asset Based Lending, Contract Negotiations and Drafting, and Project Financing.
Experience in the general practice of law in a private law firm or corporate law department.
Education:
Law degree from an ABA accredited law school.
