Wright Group/McGraw-Hill has an immediate opening for an Executive Editor in the Literacy Department at the downtown Chicago office.
Position Responsibilities
Serve as an active member of the product development team by leading the development of innovative content for literacy-based educational programs.
Manage editorial development of projects to ensure product quality, consistency, and accuracy and adherence to product plan.
Supervise editorial teams and identify training needs to ensure that team members are appropriately trained and debriefed of project responsibilities.
Work with other departments as needed, including production, design, manufacturing, marketing, sales, and other editorial teams, to plan and develop effective schedules, guidelines, and procedures to ensure successful publication.
Execute publishing plans to ensure that products are published on time and within budget
Assess market and help to develop product plans, including identifying market issues, gathering market information, and completing competition studies
Assist Editorial Director in developing and implementing both strategic short-term and long-term publishing plans that are on target with key state and local curriculum standards and assessment
Oversee communications with authors, outside development groups, consultants, and freelance workers to develop product designs that address customer needs
Propose solutions for immediate and long-term project staffing needs and evaluate quality and cost of outside writing/editorial vendors
Maintain a focus on digital technology and incorporate appropriately into publishing process (ie. K4, InCopy and other e-publishing tools)
Position Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a related field
7-10 years editorial experience in educational publishing
4 years supervisory experience
Thorough understanding of the publishing process
Thorough understanding of reading curriculum and market
Ability to proactively and creatively solve problems related to program development
Direct experience with planning, scheduling, budgeting, supervising staff and vendors, negotiating
Excellent organizational and communication skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Word and Excel
Classroom teaching experience preferred
Master's degree preferred
Ability to travel up to 20%
