Project Summary: The Center for Health Communication (CHC) has distinctive competence in a science-based approach to social marketing and communications to advance public health in the U.S. CHC currently implements a diverse portfolio of social marketing and communication projects in the U.S. which are funded by the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, private associations and foundations on health issues such as obesity prevention, immunization, tobacco control, and injury prevention.

Position Summary: The primary responsibility of the Senior Program Associate - Marketing/Communication is to support implementation of various projects for CDC and NIH. Because the nature of the Center's work is fluid, the incumbent will work as an integral member of a team of public health, research, marketing communications, eMarketing, training, technical assistance, and finance staff to plan and implement a broad range of health communication projects and activities, with particular contribution expected in the area of traditional and new marketing communication.
Essential Job Functions:
Support public relations outreach efforts by pitching stories to the media, developing media lists as well as contributing to the development of media materials (press releases, backgrounders, press kits).
Assist senior staff by researching, writing, and editing a broad range of print, audio-visual and web-based materials for a variety of audiences. Products and tools may include brochures, fact sheets, web content, newsletters, reports, matte articles, and PowerPoint presentations as assigned.
Support communication initiatives by creating client status reports, drafting work plans and timelines and coordinating other project management functions.
Support media outreach and communication initiatives by conducting formative research as needed via database and internet searches, literature reviews, environmental scans and materials audits and report findings to senior staff.
Assist senior staff in managing communications with clients and partners, including arranging conference calls, supporting meetings and conducting follow-up activities.
Help secure and maintain partnerships to support initiatives, reach goals, and further objectives, including planning meetings, writing reports and monitoring communications.
Coordinate press events or meetings, including scheduling, securing space, menu planning, and assisting with the creation of meeting materials, providing on-site support and writing reports and conducting follow-up as necessary.
Assist and work cooperatively with Center staff to carry out other administrative, financial, and operation tasks as assigned.

Education: Bachelors or equivalent work experience required
Degree Fields: Behavior Change Communications or Communications or Health Promotion or Journalism or Marketing or Mass Communications or Public Affairs or Public Health or Social Marketing
Experience: 4 year(s) of relevant experience required
Specific Knowledge Requirements:
Experience working with the media or supporting media outreach efforts.
Experience with writing basic media products (press releases , press kits, etc); experience writing feature articles and project reports.
Knowledge of marketing, public relations, advertising, promotion and other marketing communications methods.
Experience with public health or health issues a plus.
Experience and/or knowledge of new media a plus.
Skills:

Ability to learn and apply new skills;
Ability to work with the media and external partners in an effective and cordial manner;
Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications;

Motivation and willingness to take initiative and full responsibility for selected activities.
