The Senior Software Engineer is a key contributor individually and as a member of a project team. Personnel at this level are expected to be able to serve in a role of a technical or project contributor in a project, application, or technical area as part of a project team with minimal guidance.

This level should be capable of providing recommendations to other more junior personnel as part of a project team, and propose alternatives to the project lead. The Senior Software Engineer should be able to work independently to solve moderately complex application and technical problems.

* Provides GE MapFrame application development and configuration services to clients and internal development teams.

* Delivers solutions to clients.

* Demonstrates and promotes excellence in all aspects of development including design, coding standards, testing and documentation.

* Participates with project technical leads and project management efforts on projects and provides technical support to the project manager.

* Participates in statement of work and functional requirement customer write-ups, customer and project management status calls, submission of technical documentation for development work, draft and review of end user documentation.

* Participates in the design, development of customer projects using MapFrame application configurations, GIS / CIS / DMS extractions tools and methodologies, and appropriate programming languages.

* Reviews user requirements and proposes system and application design.

* Participates in technical reviews of papers and presentations developed by other employees.

* Participates in development of training materials and delivery of training as appropriate.

* Reviews technical designs and other project deliverables.

* Participates in the development of testing and training materials and supports and/or performs testing, training, and application deployment tasks for client.

Qualifications

* Four-year college degree or international equivalent in Geography/Cartography, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, or other field.

* Minimum of three years of work experience, developing applications using Microsoft Visual C++/MFC.

* Ability and willingness to travel.

* Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.

* Excellent oral and written communication skills and able to discuss complex technology in a clear and concise manner with a variety of audiences.

* Solid business acumen.

* The ideal candidate will additionally have experience in one or more of the following: GIS / spatial data environments: ESRI, GE Smallworld, Intergraph, and/or Autodesk, field crew automation for electric, gas, telecommunications or cable operations, knowledge of Utility industry work management applications from MDSI (Ventyx), Viryanet, LogicaCMG, CGI, Indus, and @Road.

* Green Belt Certified (internal only)
